April 17th.
As the Shadow & Flame members know, I'm currently working on the Croatian translation of The Children of Húrin. I've got the full text and all the Alan Lee illustrations within the book, and they're indeed beautiful and hugely accomplished, if very restrained. All are black and white, and done in his preferred pencil-on-paper style.
I'm bound by my confidentiality agreement not to say anything about the text itself, but I can at least point out what every reader of the Unfinished Tales should easily see: the gold-foil stamp represents the Dragon-helm of Dor-lómin, and Túrin, the hero of the book, is shown wearing it in the gorgeous cover illustration, during his time on Amon Rûdh, the chief stronghold of the Land of Bow and Helm.
I can't tell you how moving this work is. (But it is, so is...)

You are one lucky dog Seretur :) I am very jealous.
I do believe they changed the release date to Monday April 16th however, the sooner the better I guess.

I'd be jealous of myself too. But then, this kind of an assignment brings along extreme responsibility -- you don't want to be accused of doing a sloppy job just because your translation is coming out day and date. Which is why I'm spending most of my waking hours devoted to it.
In a way, I'm glad this book came along, because, honestly, after 40 published titles I really didn't feel there was anything challenging left out there...

My mind is officially boggled. I never would have thought that I would be reading a new Tolkien book.

Just noticed that Alan Lee did the cover art. He is my second favorite tolkien artist behind Ted Nasmith and slightly ahead of John Howe.....Lee did a good job

I have the Deluxe Edition on order, even though I have absolutely no idea of what the difference might be.
The price between the deluxe and non-deluxe is nearly 3 times!!

I am really excited about this book. I have the complete History of Middle Earth in hardback and someday I will tackle them. I have read a little and while they don't flow like The Hobbit and the trilogy you can tell it is Tolkien and so wonderful. I am hoping for the same from this one.

The Deluxe Edition will be a slipcase version like the Hobbit and LOTR. The Hobbit is green and the LOTR is red. I wonder if Children of Hurin will be blue.

These are scholarly books, so don't expect an easy read. The Book of Lost Tales and the Lays of Beleriand are somewhat standalone pieces; then it gets immersed into the history of the writing of LOTR and Silm, so beware...

I have glanced through them and they do seem slow reading, someday when I am not so rushed I will delve into them. They sure were expensive but I am sure they are worth it.

Do you have the complete HoME in one complete set?? I've been looking for a company that makes the complete set (hardcover), but I haven't found any yet.

I bought each one separately at Borders a couple of years ago. They are very nicely done but take up a lot of space. The set looks nice I did not even know they ever came that way.

Well, my point was that I don't think they have really climbed that high in value!! And besides, I've been collecting Tolkien long before I started collecting Sideshow or statues, so the Tolkien books ain't going no where!!! :rotfl

I thought that it was 60 bucks or so from Amazon, but now it is listed as $47.25. Did the price go down, or am I remembering incorrectly?

No... unfortunately, I don't have anything even close on the Hobbit and the LOTR books. :monkey2 I was in college when Sil came out and got two copies of the 1st printing of that, but one of them had printing errors and some of the pages were blank. I can't remember if I kept it or returned it... :rotfl
I have the first printing of most any Tolkien book released since the mid 70's or so, including the Art books, Father Christmas Letters, etc. One of these days, I will own a 1st/1st of the Hobbit and LOTR... one of these days...

That's Nargothrond -- probably the back cover illustration. The ones inside are all b&w pencils.
My translation has been finished for a while, and is coming out day & date with the English original. :D

The title of this painting is apparently "Beleg Departs Menegroth."
According to tolkienlibrary.com, in addition to the front cover/jacket artwork (which will be a frontispiece in the deluxe version), both versions will include eight full color paintings and 25 pencil drawings by Alan Lee.
And I'm jealous that you have had the chance to read it before the rest of us.

I think the 3 volume set was printed in very limited numbers. I have an extra set of that. I bought it from a local bookstore thinking it's better to have all 3 in a set compared to the single volume deluxe ones which costs much more to buy separately i believe.
