Is it just me that finds it weird but Padme was the top voted figure but yet Asaj went up for order and nothing else has been spoken of Padme. What happened? is she cancelled?

i've been wondering that myself. dragging their feet on this one.

I doubt they canceled her. There's no reason for that. She's just later than we thought.

Possibly they'll be debuting a new body type with her? Her outfit is pretty tight fitting so it would be a shame to have it on a funky looking body.

Just a thought.

I think that with Padme, they had to get the Natalie Portman likeness right on the money before they went into production. Asajj doesn't have to meet such level of criticism because she's not based on any real person.
Maybe that's why Asajj will be in our hands before Padme.

Or maybe they were actually going to do Asajj regardless of what the outcome was of the vote which means that she would have been in production earlier.

I sure hope so! The Art S Buck female body is SUCK. Then again, the male body is too.

I just hate the neck of the female body. They whould do it like they do with the males, as in sculpted for more realism. It would look so much nicer than the head-on-a-pin look.

People just don't realize how incredibly long a figure remains in development before a prototype is revealed. This is the first figure that we knew about before anything at all had been started on her. Normally we wouldn't see anything about Padme until she was getting ready to go into production. And there's those annoying approvals from LFL which has to happen for every stage of the project too. I'm sure we'll something of her soon - but I wouldn't be surprised if Quinlan Vos and Thrawn beat her into release.

Quinlan Vos would be cool. As for the female body issue, anyone think that Boushh will debut it, hence the delay??

I don't know that Leia Boussh would even require a new female body considering the amount of clothing involved.

I'd really like SSC to produce some 1/6 KOTOR figures, since KOTOR (the game franchise, not the crummy comics) is by far the best thing about the EU. And it's not even close, imho.

Don't get me rambling about KOTOR figures. Malak is my second most wanted 12" figure. There are a lot of quality characters that have great designs from those games. It would also be a great way for them to expand the Lords of the Sith line.

IrishJedi

Agreed.

Malak, Revan, Bastila, HK-47, Mission, the various Sith soldiers, etc would all make terrific figures. And that's just from the first game!

Darth Nihilus, Sion, Traya/Kreia and Visas would all be musts for me, too.

And after reading the DARTH BANE novel (tremendous... and this is coming from someone who thinks 95% of the EU is garbage) he and a few of those characters would be awesome as well.

Seriously, if SSC wants to beef up the "Lords of The Sith" line past the films they should begin and end with KOTOR. Heck, as much as I kinda dig Asaaj Ventress, I'd rather have any of the aforementioned KOTOR characters before her.

For the female figs, I much prefer the head on a stick look unless the figure is wearing a turtleneck. A moveable joint at the base of the neck is really unappealing, to me at least. See the P Galore figure, as opposed to the Cordelia figure.

But I'm ready to see progress on Padme too. There's a newsletter tonight...

I hope that major delays with all 3 Female character are based on the body. If it was just Leia and Assaj then we would know its a swapable head issue.

And the letdown all the harder.

Also the female's hands need to be addressed as well. I was going thru several of my $ide$how figure bins and noticed the hands are very small on the females. Almost fit for a child, but not a woman.

At the time of the poll, IIRC they mentioned that the results surprised them a lot. I think they figured Asajj would be #1, not #4(or was it 5?).

This is long enough. It's been what, nearly a year and a half? There MUST be something more going on with this one. Any chance that Natalie Portman has the right to nix this figure being made and Sideshow is hoping we just someday forget about the figure/the line ends?

The headsculpt was shown to us 9 months ago. I talked to a guy from Dragon a couple years back and he said a complex figure like a Soldat went from notes on a pad of paper to a figure on the shelves in as little as six months.

The outfit isn't complex, and it will cover her whole body which they've used for other female figures with tight outfits so I don't buy that it's the outfit.

I just wish Sideshow would come out and be totally honest and tell us exactly what has been the hold up with this figure.

Licensed figures are completely different than something Dragon puts out. It really does take this long - when we first see other figures they are well on the way through the production process and it still can take a year to get to us. I can see SSC never doing a fan choice figure again though - if all the thanks they get is complaining.

I fully understand that figures take a long time to go through the development cycle, but we saw the sculpt MONTHS ago (and the figure itself was announced months before that). Surely they should further along by now.

I'm now convinced it's the cruddy Art S Buck figure that has delayed this. I can't even imagine the Snow Bunny outfit looking even remotely good enough on the existing base bodies.

I can only hope the resolution is to ditch the Buck and wait on a new (and obviously much-improved) body and not some futile attempt to make the clothing fit better on the crappy Buck.

Let's just hope that if they do another "fan's choice" poll, they don't premature assume the winner again and already have it in development when it loses... :lol

At this point, complaints should be expected!

As long as you "claim" it takes for one of these figures, this has gone waaaaaaaay past any normal time period! It's also obvious that something has either happened or is going on with this figure but whatever it is, Sideshow ain't telling us... I too wish they would just come clean!

Frankly, I wouldn't be surprized if we "eventually" got word that it was cancelled!?!

Well you don't have to worry about any KOTOR figures from SS any time soon. GG has the Microsoft agreement so we are likely only to get them in bust form for a while. Hopefully GG keeps up with more EU and KOTOR characters though.

I don't think that Microsoft owns the rights to KOTOR, at best it might be split between them and Lucas.

IrishJedi

Microsoft doesn't own KOTOR at all, it's 100% owned by Lucasfilm. In fact, Microsoft didn't even publish the games, LucasArts did. So I don't know how that rumor got started, but Microsoft has absolutely no ownership over KOTOR.

Sideshow's "Star Wars" license could indeed include characters from KOTOR.

Lets suppose for example that they had Padme close to being done and could have released her. Lets also assume they have listened to the complaints and have developed new bodies. Maybe they needed to ask if they should rush her out and have an ok figure or wait and make an awesome figure. They obviously can't say this has the new body when both Leias will have the old one, especially if they want the new body to have impact.

Just looking at possibilities.

Poor Sideshow is caught in quite an unusual place this year; it seems to be one where they have to make drastic changes at the cost of a regularly scheduled line up. I bet it'll yield great results though!

HELL YEA !!!!! Exar Kun would make maul look like a little girl. the FIRST true sith lord to use the double-handle lightsaber. With him and his apprentive Qel-Droma, I would kill for those figures. But the only bad part about the EU figures, is that there is no ONE definitive likeness to them. They have been drawn in many comics and visualized in books, but there is no ONE likeness that we all know. Besides that, the ancient EU would be great.

To be fair, the poll wasn't to choose which would get made, it was to choose which would get made FIRST. So if they're expecting thanks for ignoring the poll results, well... tough.

Not that I think Snowbunny Padme won fairly.

Well, if they ran into issue with her at all then they should delay everyone else? It doesn't work like that ya know. Which is why SS never says this figure will come out before that figure.

:lol I think the uproar is less about SBO Padme's delay and more about the EU offering of Asajj Ventress PPO'ing and shipping most likely before Padme's preview even. If Asajj wasn't in that poll I don't think it'd be as big of a deal....Either way I voted for Mara Jade. :monkey5 :lol

bluesparrow
05-15-2007, 12:54 PM
Well, a delay is one thing, but it's not as if Asajj Ventress was #2 on the poll. She was fourth or fifth place. Mara Jade was #2, I believe, Kir Kanos at #3? Actually I think Asajj was fifth place, because Quinlan Vos was higher too. So Sideshow just went ahead and did whoever they wanted to. That's what's annoying to me. Even though I like Asajj Ventress, I'd rather have Padme, Mara Jade, or Kir Kanos. But they pushed ahead with the fifth out of six candidates.

Agent0028
05-15-2007, 01:14 PM
It would be nice if Sideshow said what's up with the delay since Asajj seems to be coming out quicker. My guess would be its because Asajj is based off drawings instead of an actual person, but we saw the headsculpt so long ago I don't know if that's it or not. Either way I wouldn't think that saying what's going on would release any secrets they don't want out and since they did the fan poll to decide on Padme keeping the fan updated would seem logical.

abstractharmony
05-15-2007, 01:21 PM
They have said what the delay is.

They told us initailly that they were having problems with the costume and went back to the drawing board, they later told us that there were other problems with the figure (read between the lines - the body shape) and so they've gone back to the start again.

We've all seen the head so we know that looks good.

The Mike
05-15-2007, 02:13 PM
If the body styling is being worked on, indicating that a new female body is in the works and that IS the reason for the delay then what is with all the secrecy? One would think they'd benefit from the unavoidable buzz created with the idea of a Art S. Buck 2.0.....

Ah, I missed it. I haven't paid much attention to this figure since its not one I intend to get. I just read the thread for the first time today wondering what the hold up was.
