I got this 1997 R2D2 from Applause. Does anyone here know if this little figure is in scale with the Sideshow 12" figures? It looks like it to me, but I'm not sure. It's approximately the same heigh as the Medicom VCD Yoda.

I personally would use a Hasbro R2-D2 but that is just me.

I have all the Applause SW figures. They are not very impressive. They are to Hasbro what Hasbro is to SS. I collected them during a particularly obsessive time.... much like now. I think the Applause R2 would look horrible next to any SS figure. If you just can't wait, at least use Hasbro.

Agreed on the look of that applause R2. The Hasbro R2 is atually pretty nice. So nice that I don't really see where SS could improve it on a 1/6 scale.

Oh... you WILL see. You will see.

True. I am not saying they can't, but the Hasbro R2 is a nice little piece for pretty cheap.

You're all right about the Applause R2D2, it doesn't look that swell, but I got if for cheap, and it's the only R2 I have at the moment that is more or less in scale with the SSC 12" figures. I have a recent Hasbro R2D2, with sound and lights and all (bought it last year), but it's way to small (3 inch or so). What Hasbro R2D2 are you talking about?

Maybe SSC will announce R2D2 and C-3PO at toyfair?

Anyway, my dearest R2's at the moment are my biggest one, from Attakus, and my smallest one, from MicroMachines-Action Fleet (1cm). :D

That's what we're hoping (or Chewie).

The Applause figures were nice when they originally came out. I did like the Han in Stormtrooper uniform with the removable helmet.

I agree with the majority...If you can get a Hasbro R2, then it's definately worth it over the Applause version. Otherwise I'd wait and see what Sideshow has in store in the near future...

What a difference 15 years makes.

Very true! I loved the Hasbro 12" figures when they started coming out in the 90's.

Hasbro made 3 12'' R2s. One was a regular clean version, the other a dirty version that had sounds (came with C-3P0) and a version that had utility parts that you could add on to him (pictured below with the VCD Yoda - photo by Adam Hughs).

Hope that helps you man.
