I saw this on another forum. I was kind of hoping for a Gandalf vs Balrog or at least a Aragorn vs Lurtz first.

Would this happen to be down on Harrison Street? They're always making up stuff down there.
If this is true, I wonder if it will be the final battle over the Ring.

In all seriousness, I can't think of a more iconic (there's that word again) battle in the entire series. The whole kit-n-kaboodle hangs on this very contest, man! It all comes down to the wee little bastard that wins this tussle! :rock
So, yeah, I think it's a natural choice.
Have they confirmed that all of the dioramas will be of the VS. variety?

Well, I would have hoped for a confrontation that existed in the book. But this one will still look pretty cool, I suppose.

These aren't based on just the book though.

Looking forward to the pics but at 1/9th scale this could be pretty small.

It can easily be the one from the book -- their first encounter in Emyn Muil.
That one would have to include Sam as well, though. (Maybe it does, and Matt's street just isn't completely reliable.) As a plus point, it wouldn't only recreate the scene from Book IV, it would also depict the famous Alan Lee illustration, as PJ took great care to reenact it in the movie.
Or it's the one in Sammath Naur, with Gollum biting Frodo's ringbearing finger off. That one is also from the book, so no complaints there either.
It could be the two of them struggling immediately afterwards. Not in the book, and not as iconic as the first two choices anyway, so hopefully that's not the one.
Finally, it could be their fight immediately after Shelob's lair, or on the slopes of Mt. Doom (again with Sam involved). Sort of canonical again...
Whichever it is, I'm glad we haven't gotten another Gandalf vs. Balrog before the plaque has managed to sell out; and I'm ecstatic we're not getting yet another Lurtz piece after all.
First Maul, now this -- I'm stoked, stoked! :banana :banana :banana :banana :banana

I would absolutely love it (though my "street" can neither confirm nor deny) if it were of Gollum pearing over the rocks at a sleeping Sam and Frodo.
That would be a perfect diorama-worthy scene! :clap

Probably closer to 4.5-5 inches (1/4 scale Frodo is 10"), but remember that these are not all going to be at 1/9 scale.

I do know that these will be primarily film based, and that makes sense. But I loved the movies best when they managed to bring to life the book in a way that I had always imagined. There were other parts that changed or contradicted what was written by Tolkien--and while I often understood why PJ did what he did, the changes were just what I had to put up with in exchange for so much that was done right from the book.
While there was a struggle between Frodo and Gollum in the book, PJ kind of expanded on and altered the chain of events. In the book, Frodo puts on the ring and Gollum bites it off his finger, dances for joy, and falls over the edge. There is not a protracted fight between the two of them, nor is there a scene with Frodo hanging over the edge with Sam trying to "talk him of the ledge," so to speak. So it doesn't play out exactly how I have carried it in my imagination after reading and rereading the book over the years.
When it comes to the dioramas, I think I will be most excited about the big iconic moments from the films that also bring to life the events of the book with the greatest possible accuracy. Sam carrying Frodo up the slopes of Mount Doom qualifies. Gandalf facing off against the Balrog does as well. There will (hopefully) be a lot of dioramas that will present a moment from the films that also happen to remain faithful to the book as an added bonus for us book lovers.
(At least the first one isn't Aragorn falling off the cliff during the Warg attack.)
Of course, I will be thrilled if it's this scene--straight out of both the book AND film:

Sideshow would probably go larger than 1/9 scale for a piece involving just hobbits.
(Oh, and Tom, I did a brief analysis of the book-worthiness of the various Frodo vs. Gollum confrontations a few posts above.)

It would be a pity if they were not in scale but understandible with some of the potential matchups like Gandalf v Balrog, The 9 Ringwraits on steeds:D and Gandalf v Morgul Lord on Fellbeast.

I'm not getting them, but I'd like for them to be all in scale too. Of course 1/9 scale for a Balrog is bigger than the NECA one.

Word is either Elm or Sesame....
In all seriousness, it'll be an easy pass for me. SSC is really pumping out the great product and the HT imports aren't helping the wallet at all so in order for me to buy into the diorama it'll have to be something really iconic or dramatic and Frodo vs. Gollum really doesn't do it for me....:frodo

Thank you, thank you. There are a lot of people I have to thank for coming in number one, first the Sideshow FREAKS board for offering up such a universal phrase and next of course the rumor mill which pumps out the information in time for me to pass before even getting official word of this product. Thank you all!
The only way I could be swayed to order these would be if they looked shockingly good while the Frodo PF looked shockingly bad (in hand).

I imagine that most of these will be done by the Gore Group (or I am hoping so anyway), that would have little to impact on either the PF or 12" lines.

I think they will do some work on this line as well. Either way I don't expect much of an impact.

Does GROND count as a diorama? :D
You can have Grond fire spewing from its mouth and pulled by those huge rhinoceros-like creatures as the dio. But if SS is gonna down scale it into mini GROND, forget it.
I mean do we really need another frodo or gandalf? Lol, I got a new Acronym, NaF or NaG.

Can''t wait to see it, I'll be dropping the 12 inch and PF line if this line does justice. Frodo vs Gollum, maybe at MT. Doom, that sounds most likely.
