Very much excited. I'm secretely hoping the Frodo PF looks like crap so I can ditch the PF line and get the VS line.
So what do you think the first PF will be?
I'd love to see a Sauron and Isildur at some point but don't expect that to be the first.

luckily yes,
I joined collecting only last year but have Wolverine vs sabertooth #8 / 300 and Hulk vs Spider man 187/500
I am still on the fence for captain america vs though, but considering LOTR vs series is also coming, I probably will make some money and order it as well.
so wolverine vs for example, is it 1/9 scale
I better check SS web :)

Great news! If they turn out to be awesome, then I am going to cancel my LOTR PF line.
im also excited by this announcement... I think I may have to drop the 12" figures all together and focus on PFs, statues, and these dioramas if they are well done.

It will be a real disappointment for me if SS will manufacture bust VS diaromas

Hmm, maybe I am the only one not all that excited (but mind you I am reluctantly jazzed):
1) They are listed as being mostly in 1/9 scale, imagine a hobbit at 1/9 scale ....
ok, did you do it?
2) They aren't exactly cranking out the PFs and 12" figs, and while these are likely stemming from two different sources, really --- first things first. I am certain that if the GORE group gets their hands on these, they will be amazing!
I am in wait and see mode; it will take something amazing (which SS is more than capable of :eek) to get me to bite.
gambit
01-25-2007, 11:43 PM
may be they will not do any hobbit at all,
may be it will be only big creatures like, ents, nazgul, balrog and therefore the scale is 1/9?
Radagaster
01-26-2007, 12:29 AM
1/9 scale is not that small. Imagine the 1/4 scale Lurtz we all have. Now shrink that by half and you have a 1/8 scale. Ditto with Frodo. 1/9 scale is actually 2/3 the size of current Weta statues. To fit a good diorama like Sam carrying Frodo up Mt Doom . . .you have to allow some scenery in, which takes up the other 1/3 of the picture.
I can imagine Sideshow doing the full Fellowship lineup in this scale, broken up into 3 -4 bases that interlock. Basically think of these as possible VS editions for LOTR.
The first one better be a bang-up job! This will help relieve my disappointment in the 1/4 PF that is Frodo.

I pretty much agree with this. If they do a piece that includes the entire Fellowship I may have to bite, but nothing else would grab my attention as I just don't have the money and or space for this line.

This is the first I've learned of this (yes, I live under a rock :D), and I'm approaching this new line with caution. If this line is like the statue (not bust) Marvel pieces, then this could be cool. But my purchases will be based on what scenes and characters are designed. With the price point these things will have, I can't be a completist. But, I'm thankful we are getting more poly! :D
Fritz
01-26-2007, 08:07 AM
I'm going to give it a chance but if these dioramas are like Spidey/Venom and Fantastic 4 then it's an easy pass for me. If they are like the "vs" line in that scale then I'm warming up to it. But for me my first choice is still Premium Format. Since I can't collected everything, 12" will probably suffer and I doubt I'll get all of the dioramas either. I'm concentrating on Premium Format and since we only get one per year, that's more manageable. :monkey5 And that's the main reason I'm not overly excited with this announcement, I really wish more emphasis was put on PF, this announcement just further dilutes the LotR pool. But I also understand that it may be cheaper to produce this type of collectible and PF isn't overly a great seller.

I think many of us feel the same way, but I imagine that these will be coming from two different sources. The PFs and 12" figs seem to be generated in-house by SS's staff sculptors. I imagine that this new line could/will be done by the GORE group, and so while it might appear that they are holding one another up, it shouldn't work out that way.

Interesting
Well I've not got into the PF Line (yet).
I sold the only 12" figure I bought.
While I like the look of the GG Busts I'm not a collector of Busts as such (only picked up the 4 Last Alliance ones from SSW) so will be passing on them.
So I'm quite excited to see what Sideshow can do with this line.
