Not Lotr as such but it's just been announced that George RR Martin's epic fantasy series "A Song of Ice and Fire" is to be made into a 7 season long TV drama by HBO.

ASOIAF is probably my second favourite fantasy book/series so looking forward to how this turns out.

I LOVE!!!! everything that HBO touches... I have never read the books but I have no doubt that the series will be good.

This is good news. I'm in the middle of "A Clash of Kings" right now. I just hope they put the same effort into the series that they do with "Rome".

This is very exciting news! The only way to so this series justice was in a mini-series format.

Now, the rest of the series needs to be completed. At Martin's rate I would expect book 7 to hit the shelves sometime in 2011 to 2015 considering book 5 still hasn't been released yet. :D

What a lot of trouble and expense for HBO just to finally get me to subscribe. I hope it's worth it.

These books are incredible. I don't know if I could watch the shows, though. They would not be for the faint of heart or squeamish of stomach.

Oh, who am i kidding? I'd watch 'em.

I wish they would make the Dunk and Egg short stories into a show.

These books rival Tolkien, not in universe, but definitely in story and plot. The plot for these books is so think ALL the time...

The fourth book is GOOD, but VERY slow...with all the politics involved...this makes for a PERFECT HBO series.

Kudos to GRR and HBO...can't wait!

I'd be more excited but HBO had an incredibly brilliant show with CARNIVALE and they cancelled it after two seasons of a six season story, leaving an unfinished series and a bitter taste in this viewers throat.

Between this news and PREACHER, I should be jumping for joy, but I can't get excited til I know for sure that HBO is committed to these. Its gonna take a lot of money, a lot of work and a lot of love to faithfully adapt these and the bottom line is we just have to wait and see.

And anyone whos a fan of ERAGON just found out the terrible reality of an adaptation without a care for the integrity of the source material (and I'm not saying that book was anything like or nearly as good as A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE).

I don't mean to sound skeptical, perhaps thing will look promising as we hear more on Casting, etc.

It COULD Be Great! But will it?
