I don't know if anybody did this, but I got the idea from this youtube video:

Basically you just have to get this "Gila Privacy Control WIndow Film" and stick behind your detolf and voilà! You have a mirrored back.

What I like is that it creates a darker mirror than usual, more like mirrored sunglasses. It's pretty neat and deepens the displays.

pretty neat! what I like about the film is that it is darker than a regular mirror. in my case the way the shelves are positioned it is slightly less reflective and better.

you just have me an idea with your rods to change the levels of the detolf. I want to add a fifth layer for my cars. I wonder if ikea sells the glass separately?

Just have the glass shelves cut to size at a glazier, I don't think it will
be expensive..

Ikea does not sell Detolf shelves separately, but take a look at some of their other glass shelves, namely the Rationnel, which *may* fit if being supported by a DIY solution like cable clamps.

I can get glass cut with polished edges locally at great prices, but from other threads it seems like that's not a possibility for some folks. If you plan to have the glass tempered that's going to greatly affect the price - Ikea's glass shelves are all tempered already.

Yeh, I did it back in 09" :D But I used a mirror replacement not film.

Yes Nacho it was done back in 09 and Magnus and I got the Idea from you. Once again I don't paying homage to ya. Since then I've seen people trying to do the same thing. I took the back part of the Detolf to a mirror and glass place here in NYC(Brooklyn) and they made a onsided mirror for me, same size and everything so that it would fit in my Detolf. Here's a video of my collection I use to have. [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=545XqTwfebE"]My video Collection [/ame]

That Major winters looks awesome.

I'd like to mirror the back of mine, but the hassle of doing all five is putting me off lol

Nice solution, like the detolf from ikea, it's cheap and kind of neat, but it's way to small. Ikea should release a bigger modell. But they are probably not thinking of collectors when they are doing these =P
And also one flaw with the detolf is that you can't adjust the shelves.

im pretty new to 1:6 collecting, and am slowly finding out these awesome custom figures in these threads. where the hell do you guys find these?? like for example that captain miller?
