I think we should get a group together for a Rancho Obi-Wan Master Membership, to take a tour group of 12. $550 for 12 people = $45 each (I'll round down to keep it simple, and pay the extra myself). Not too shabby! This includes "Naming opportunity on the Wall of Star". We could put Sideshow Freaks or something else that we vote on. Just a thought!

I think it would be a great excuse for a mini-vacation! We could also hit up Skywalker Ranch, and try to crash the gate "Fanboys" style! Or the new Imagination Park Dedication in San Anselmo. Or the Letterman Digital Arts Center, or the Presidio. Open to suggestions!!!

This could easily be a weekend trip. Fly Friday night, and back on Sunday! The tours start at 2pm. For those that want to, we could share rooms/rental cars to save $$$. So, who's with me? :panic: :panic: :panic:

THE DATE IS SET - SAT. OCTOBER 26!!! STILL ROOM FOR 1 MORE FREAK, IF ANYONE ELSE WANTS TO JOIN US!

I will be asking for a list of date conflicts from everyone, once I have filled the list. Hopefully there will be a weekend where nobody has a conflict. This could push to early 2014, if the end of 2013 doesn't work. That's just a random goal. Obviously we need to avoid the holidays.

It's pretty much only financially feasible for groups. If one or two people want a tour, it's $100 each. That's too much. But for a group of 12, it's much more reasonable...

I'll probably take 16 names to get the ball rolling, seeing as we have several tentatives. Then I'll ask for date conflicts, and see if we can find common date options that work. If there are multiple date options without stated conflicts, I'll have people vote. Then people can research flights (NOT BOOK, just research), just to make sure it is financially do-able, before I ask people to commit. I'd say for 2013, we have a two-month window (mid-Sept to mid-Nov). It is probably best to avoid the holiday season. If we can't make that timeframe work, then I'll start looking at early 2014.

The tour is $550 for up to 12 people. Like Waller said, it would cost more per person to go with less. Realistically we won't want less than 11 people. That would be $50 each. I don't think anyone would want to pay more than that. But I'm still aiming for 12. The more, the merrier (and cheaper)! :hi5:

I guess being weird is a requirement to live in Vegas. Wife tells me I'm weird all the time.

BTW, have you been to Rogue Toys on LV Blvd yet? Not a lot of SSC stuff but definitely a ton of toys and decent prices.

Oh, not yet. I think initially I thought you meant the one downtown on Fremont in the old Neonopolis. Which was fun to walk around, but didn't really have anything for me and seemed quite overpriced.

I'll check out Rogue Toys soon! Thanks for the suggestion. :D

Yeah, I've been to that one also. Most of his stuff really is overpriced. I think it's because of his location.

Rogue Toys just opened up and he has contests and trading days. It's pretty interesting.

Oh wow, people have been posting in here! My thread LIIIIIVES!!!
OK, let's start talking dates. Yes, this is the scary part. The 2013 schedule is only posted through September currently, and there are NO Saturday's available. So I am listing the Saturdays in October and early November. I assume it will be the easiest to schedule for a Saturday (they only do Mon, Fri, Sat). I do not know for certain that these dates are available, since their calendar is not extended that far. Once we determine a date, I will contact Steve to confirm availability. Post in this thread if you have a conflict for any date(s).

So, at this point I'm down for whatever. Just need time to get funds together which any of those dates would allow.

OK, I am going to propose November 2nd. If anyone has a problem with that, please state it by Tuesday, June 18. I advise looking at flights now (don't book anything! just check prices to make sure it is financially feasible). If for any reason there's a convention nearby driving rates up, then we'll look at November 9. I'm trying not to rub too close to Thanksgiving, so November 16 would be a last resort.

Anyone know what the closest airport is?

I'll contact Steve to confirm that date is available...

furystorm
06-14-2013, 12:22 PM
Here's what I found. It's unlikely anyone would use the first option. And both SF and Oakland are equidistant. I'm really hoping to be working in CA by then, and not have to fly.

The nearest major airport is Charles M. Schulz - Sonoma County Airport (STS / KSTS). This airport has domestic flights from Santa Rosa, California and is 25 miles from the center of Petaluma, CA.

Another major airport is San Francisco International Airport (SFO / KSFO), which has international and domestic flights from San Francisco, California and is 52 miles from Petaluma, CA.

Oakland International Airport (OAK / KOAK) has international and domestic flights from Oakland, California and is 52 miles from Petaluma, CA.

galactiboy
06-14-2013, 12:25 PM
I think SFO tends to be better when I've flown there... but I'll check on some prices.

furystorm
06-14-2013, 12:26 PM
Very quick cursory glance at flights for me from LV, Friday to Sunday, anytime...

STS - $356
SFO - $232 and non-stop, my preference, but...
OAK - $140!, wow wasn't expecting that great rate!

furystorm
06-14-2013, 12:27 PM
So, if others can get a great rate into OAK, we could rent a van and load all the freaks up together. It would be a ****ing blast!

No Oakland for me :monkey2

Just checking Travelocity and all the weekends are showing the same price and cheapest for me is OKC to SFO Although for some reason it won't show single flight from Tulsa to San Francisco... only to Oakland which is like 2x the price :huh

Not sure if I'm doing something wrong :huh

furystorm
06-14-2013, 12:31 PM
For me, it was always SFO, if I could afford it, because after I found out how treacherous it could be to get from the airport into the city from OAK. I think they are fixing, or have fixed that. But SFO was a straight shot on the BART...

Felt much safer, and I was in the city in a half hour. :D

2) Look into a Friday or Monday possibility, which I previously had not been considering.
3) Push our plans into early next year (Jan to March).

Everyone please let me know which of these options they prefer by ranking their selection in order of preference.

December 14 a possibility, but I would be in the middle of year end inventory at work...but taking off a day then isn't going to hurt anything really.

December 21 & 28 is way to close to Christmas... same as Thanksgiving *

If I had to pick from the above it would be October 26, with December 14 being a good choice as well.
The other dates are too close to holidays and I'm sure there will be a conflict.

Out of the possible Saturday appointments I think these 3 could work for me... I'd say this would also be the order of preference. Bummer the 2nd didn't work, that seemed like the perfect day :lol

October 26
November 30
December 14

Of the non-Saturday dates the only one I'd be possibly available for is the Monday, October 28th. The 2 November dates are during my anniversary so no-go on those.

I'll veto Monday the Oct. 28, in everyone's best interest. Most people would be flying home on the 29th or later. That is during Spook, when stuff "could" start to happen. The 26th at least is on the weekend, when Sideshow won't be doing ANYTHING.

Personally, I vote for October 26, but I have no problem with the other dates. Like punkg said, we should avoid the dates around the holidays. I know "someone" had previously vetoed 10/26. It's in this thread somewhere. Maybe I'll dig for it later. But if it is only one person with a problem for that date, then perhaps we should still focus on that date. Finding an available date that works for EVERYONE may prove to be impossible. I think we'll still hit 12 anyway. It seems like we have more than enough interest now...

I didn't listen to RFR yet. How does the sleepover work? How much extra does it cost? That would be fun to see The Hobbit as a group on the 13th, then hit ROW on the 14th. I'm game with this plan...

I'm committed to paying my third to last credit card down each month by at least $1000, and that ain't easy when you only have unemployment coming in. So R2 had to suffer this month in order to make that goal. It's enough that I dropped over $2000 on the frame last month, thanks in part to the Cantina, so other parts will just have to wait...

Yep, supposedly a way to hold sellers accountable who were charging $100 for shipping to bypass fees. So rather than eliminate that practice they now take 9% from your shipping costs as well. If I didn't know better I'd think they were just doing that to get more money :huh :lol

Sad but true... I only got in a couple good Spooks myself.

Even during the good ones, I always missed the good freebies. I was too slow, and not as well "connected" back then... I never won anything big during Spook. But I definitely won my share of contests in the early years. I can't remember the last time I won a contest though. Been a long, long time... I'm sure that is the case for most of us... Oh well. I can't complain. Times change. Many companies have gone under. I guess we should just be happy that SSC is still in business...

OK guys, I think I'm going to call for a vote. I believe we have narrowed it down to two dates, October 26 or December 14. BEFORE YOU VOTE, PLEASE LOOK INTO FLIGHT PRICES, since that may be an important factor. If you absolutely cannot do one of these dates, please state so. But that doesn't mean we won't pick that date. As long as the majority can do one date, we're gonna try to move forward with it. Sooooo, please research flights, then post here if you prefer:
October 26
December 14

If we do December 14, we will go to The Hobbit on December 13 (and celebrate some bum's birthday), but don't let those be a deciding factor. I will also look into the sleepover possibility. I still have not listened to that episode of RFR, so if someone knows how that works, please post the info here.

That way, you can have as many Freaks go as possible whether or not I'm there. But if it'll help to have more names on the list, by all means add me. :)

Also, I'll suggest some good restaraunts in the area. And, time allowing, will guide you guys to some cool locations. I think I saw someone mention Point Reyes Lighthouse (from the FOG). That's a good one. But there are a ton of cool places out there.

Are you still looking at flying out of OKC? I have may have some logistics problems since we only have one car, so I don't think I'd be able to drive to OKC and leave my car at the airport over the trip. I may have to fly out of Tulsa and see if my wife can drop me off and pick me up.

Badwater (the lowest point in the Western Hemisphere) is where it'll be hottest. I've been there when it was 130+. Yes, that's hot. But to be honest, it's not as uncomfortable as the 90 degrees with humidity in the South.

Also, soon will be the 100th Anniversary of the date in which 134 degrees was recorded in Death Valley (at Furnace Creek). That's now officially the world record. They don't even want to estimate how hot it was in Badwater that day. :lol
