Hi,

So while I really like the statues that I have I feel unsatisfied with the way they are displayed and the shelving and all. Any suggestions to improve this?

Here is my display:

Any suggestions are most welcome!

Cheers,

That's a besta right ?. Lighting and maybe doors would make you happier , I had the exact same set up ( minus the collectibles ) before adding doors and lights. It improves the look of the collectibles and display overall dramatically.

Thanks USCMHicks - your shelf looks really good!

Are those Ikea lights and doors? If so, do you have the name by any chance? Thanks!

If they are Besta cabinets that you're using you should take a look in this thread.

Here is a really helpful quote from that thread from member " Platty " that you should find useful.

I'll copy and paste this message here that Platty sent me about bestas. I don't think he'll mind. A good bit of info here. :lecture

Basically you buy a bog standard besta bookcase (single or double):

https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/40102129/?query=401.021.29

Then you can Choose what doors, feet, handles and there is also a mirror back / glass shelf insert you can buy for quite cheap.

(The feet and handles aren't absolutely necessary mate they come with it. Really you only need the bookcase and 3 doors.)

Also there is a few lighting options, these look great and were made especially for besta, and you can see them in the video:

https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/50165404/

Here is the glass shelf / mirror back insert you can use in bestas:

My doors:

https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/40103553/

Voorhess doors (I think)

https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/70178580/

Another set of doors but not great if you want to see what's in there:

A better view:

So when I was finished I had this:

Here is a good video showing exactly what I have (minus the lights) The aluminium doors look great imo.

I've bought 2 of the cabinets found at the last ikea link.

Hope this helps. Good luck. :hi5:

Damn USMCHicks - thanks a lot, that is very helpful! I will get the same setup as you.

@karamazov - lol! The title was supposed to be pimp my shelf, not pimp my self. Such as in pimp my ride! Hahaha!

Also, get your cabinets up off the floor, it will make a huge difference. Mount them to the wall wall (Besta-types with proper hardware), put them on top of a knee-high to thigh-high cabinet (Detolf, etc.), whatever, just get them off the floor.

Next time you visit any kind of museum or gallery you'll notice that nothing is displayed down by the floor.

That said, I'd love a display case below the floor. ;) More accurately, as the floor, with thick glass that you walk on. Next house.

Besta are nice actually .. but iam using the Detolf glass cabinets

i've bought four of them & some wireless Dioder Led lights
(6 Batteries needed per a light) tbh the lights are a bit pricey .. it's working with a sensor (for 10 seconds) each time you open the glass door or touching the sensor .. the only problem is those lights abit yellow instead of white .

Return the Dioder lights to Ikea and instead buy LED ribbon lights from Amazon or eBay. They're available in cool white if that's what you prefer. At $14 for 16 feet (cut to any size) plus another $14 for a transformer, it's the lowest priced and most flexible lighting you can install. Each 30W transformer can handle up to two full strips (32 feet of lighting). You can cut lighting strips as short as 2" if you want to make sort of spots as well.
