And you know this because...
Micheal Shannon and Snyder have said so, Snyder more than once. They're doing everything they can stay away from the Reeve movies which I am happy about. This is a new Superman and no need to carry anything over from previous films IMO.

yup and spits blood in that scene as he is kneeling and it appears zod is also crushing his hand with his feet. Must be a huge body blow to cause him to spit blood.
