View Full Version : Davy Jones Modification

When Hot Toys first released their Pirates of the Caribbean line, I bought all of them (except Sao Feng) because the sculpts and character likenesses were incredible.

In the Pirates films, Will Turner was a little taller than Jack Sparrow. And Davy Jones towered over all of them. But what I didn't like is that each of the Hot Toys male figures were the same height.

So a few years ago I bought a HT Predator body from eBay and used that to add some height to my Davy Jones.

I didn't document the process at the time, but now that I'm a part of this amazing Forum, I would like to share what I did.

Here's a comparison pic of DX06 Jack, with the modified Davy Jones

Davy Jones' head sits atop an extra long neck post. I don't remember if this was part of the original figure, but it does add a little to his height

The sleeve comes off easily after popping off his octopus hand

The belt is buttoned on, so remove the belt and then remove the underlying sash

This is the part I forgot about. The lower half of his body is a Hot Toys Predator. I was thinking the entire body was the Predator sculpt. Maybe I had trouble adding his Crab Claw left arm to the Predator torso. Or maybe I didn't think Davy Jones should be some 7 foot tall giant. Probably both. But it's fine. I still like the end result :)

The upper half is held on with a balljoint.

The only difficult part of this modification was the leg. I ended up using a Dremel tool to cut down his crab leg so it would fit on the new Predator thigh.

Wow, that really adds to his presence! I wonder if there's anyway to cover up the exposed knee joint. Otherwise, flawless victory!

Welcome to the boards!

I've had all my pirates displayed for years, and I'm still really proud of the work I did on this figure. He's not going into a storage box anytime soon, so until Hot Toys does a Davy Jones 2.0, I will be happy with my Davy Jones 1.0

Thanks for reading. Drive safe.

Thanks Frank. The exposed knee is something I wish I could've done better, but honestly, I don't notice it much.

Thanks for the posting and compliment! :)

Hey thanks kumkani, I'm glad you liked my customization.
A few months ago I added some black cloth over that exposed knee joint. It's kinda cheesy, but it serves its purpose.

Good luck in your search for Davy Jones

I want one of these so bad. Nice job bro. I'm a stickler for height too. Bill Nighy is 6ft 1in or 2 according to celebrityheights.com and Depp is only what 5ft 8 or 9 at most? Excellent job brother. Well done.

Still one of my favorite figures. Well done on the mod.

You and me both. Although Davy was actually one of the figures that first alerted me to the existence of Hot Toys back in the day.
