Need help with what dvd version of E.T. to buy

So I dont know if I posted this in the wrong place or not but I need help picking out a dvd version of e.t. for my wife for Christmas. She just wants the original 1982 unaltered release. I cannot figure out through amazon which one I need to buy. I just dont want to get stuck with the remastered and edited version. Any help would be awesome.

Hey man,

Thanks so much. So this is the only way to get the original 1982 version on dvd? Just wanted to make sure there isnt a cheaper route or a version without the 2002 cut.

As far as I know. Target had a single disc DVD with just the 2002 abomination so you do have to be somewhat careful. The DVD set above is what I picked up 10 years ago, of course if you have a blu-ray player the new blu-ray has *only* the original 1982 version.

It says it has a dvd version in it, but will the original 1982 version only be on the blu ray?

From the reviews it sounds like the DVD included is the 2002 version but it's not clear. Sometimes Amazon uses old reviews on a newer version of a release.

Got ya. Okay. Ive got one last question. When doing some research I have heard that this version that was just released in october is the original 1982 release but remastered. Can anyone comment on it? I think its just the 1982 version but I just wanted to make sure.

It is. But for $5 more you can get the blu-ray version with the DVD and Digital Cody and so on:

You get the 1982 version because the special edition is an insult to dead people.
