Which body type does this figure use?

I'm using mine with the full damaged look but the other sculpt is too good to just leave in the box. Currently using it on the DX10 body. The DX10 sculpt is poor in comparison but still looks fine with the sunglasses on and I do love that look from the start of the movie.

Since I already have the spare jacket, sculpt, plenty of hands and weapons wondering if there is a way to kitbash a 3rd figure cheaper than just buying either another DX10 or DX13. Really only need the body, pants, belt, t-shirt and boots.

You'll need the DX13 body, shirt, pants and boots then. There are still quite a few on eBay. The DX13 uses a modified TTM20 so it's really a one of a kind body.

Thank's for the info. If it means buying another figure I'll put it on hold for a while till I've paid off at least some of my pre-orders released over the next few months.

When does he sustain the damage to his leg in the movie? After Cyberdyne? Ideally I want three figures to represent the galleria, cyberdyne and steel mill scenes.

He damages his leg during the tanker truck chase scene...after he mounts the T-1000 driven liquid nitrogen Tanker, the T800 rolls off of it when it hits the steel mill factory entrance. Check out the scene and you will notice some sparks as he rolls out. That's his knee getting scraped up...I'm assuming. Because after that he has that exposed metal knee portion. Just amazing.

You need the MMS for the Galleria, DX10 for Cyberdine & DX13 for steel mill. Very crafty those chaps @ Hot Toys.

Looks like what I have displayed is what you're looking for. You'll need two DX10's, one with a aftermarket Barney Ross or MMS117 black shirt and you already have the DX13 for the steel mill. I would recommend the MMS117 since it has the shirt and roses for the galleria scene, but I think the head doesn't blend with the other figures, not that I don't like the MMS117 head mind you.

The DX10 I got from ebay actually came with the black t-shirt though it was missing the mini gun and had some box damage. The figure itself is in perfect condition and came at a good discount so not complaining. Mini gun and rose box seem easy enough to pick up on ebay.

I realize the damage to his face wasn't sustained until the end of the Cyberdyne scene but happy to sacrifice that little bit of screen accuracy to use the less damaged DX13 sculpt which IMO is a near perfect likeness. Without the glasses I don't really like either of the clean T2 sculpts Hot Toys made for Arnold.

The lesser damaged DX13 represent the "I'll be back" scene up until the fight at the steel Mill. Like others have said, the knee damage happens during the truck chase whereas the chest damage is during the "I'll be back" scene. He also positions his bandolier differently than the Cyberdyne assault once he gets on the lift till the end of the movie.

Actually the damage to his chest was caused by the T-1000 Slammingm that big steel I-beam that also damaged his face exposing his endo eye inside the steel mill

Sounds like the adaptor inside the DX10 neck is too tight.

This thing

Although some people have put DX13 heads onto that body, I think Clipperking among them. So I guess it varies from figure to figure?

so yes, like a-dev says, i guess you just have a too tight neck adaptor.
or too big head ball joint.
either way you will spoil the head if you continue doing that!

The ball joint connector on the DX10/13 are too tight, I ended up getting 4 neck adapters in case any of them T-800's break.

of course it's better to try to cut the neck peg of the body and fit the neck adapter inside. but either way it is breaking something.

also this body is size accurate to the MMS117 head which is the smallest, while MMS238 head is the biggest and looks bad on TTM21 body which has the same size.

Could do a Pumping Iron bash with the body, Arnie was big in T1 but not really cut, like in his bodybuilding heyday. Would need a young looking Arnold sculpt, 25-30. Most Arnie sculpts are of him in his mid 30s -40s.

Your guess would be as good as ours. It's impossible to predict at this point. Even with T2 being rereleased in cinemas next year I still wouldn't be at all confident that Hot Toys will acknowledge it in any way.

Well, the bloodied face is too tanned, the blood looks like jelly and one part of the endo pieces protruding at the jaw is completely colored blood instead of being a chromed. Plus it REALLY could have used proper weathering, since the stock figure is absurdly clean compared to how he looked in the movie.

oh man it's so beautiful. why cannot i do the same.

Thanks P! I think the easiest way to do it when having multiple costumes to work on them by stages- that means apply the light weathering first on all costumes, wait about a minute for them to dry and proceed with the next stage. Since the steel mill scene is the most beat up, that's the one you'll be still working on when the others have finished.

The key to get the weathering right is to have multiple colors, like 5 or 5 instead of just one or two. It's nothing irreversible or damaging at all because you can wipe them clean within the first few hours. Just fire up that T2 soundtrack and you'll be done before the album even finishes. :duff

so silly question but why doesn't Hot Toys still use the PERS on most modern figures? is it a head sculpt issue with fitting the system in the head or just an outdated effect that they've moved on from? The only two figures I've ever purchased with this feature is this figure and the DX-08 Joker, I love the feature but I can see over time it becomes a bit "fidgety"

For one, they break easily and second, some figures look worse with PERS, such as the DX10.

I only used one colour in the weathering of my DX13s, 'sand' from those Tamiya weathering kits. I just did it with varying degrees of harshness based on what I was seeing in screengrabs.

As for PERS not being used anymore - do Batman figures not still use it or some form of it?

Gundamben831
11-05-2016, 06:35 AM
That head just always looked off to me, probably hence why I went straight for the BD T-800 version at the time of my purchase. I never had any issues with the PERS figures (only two not many to make assumptions) I think there was one time one of the ball sockets popped out but I popped it back in and nothing was ever wrong with either of my figures. I always just thought it was a neat added little feature. On a side note since it seems like a dropped figure feature one thing I do want to comment on is how much I dislike the "off stare" look of most recent figures IE the suicide squade figure half of them are either looking to the side or in some random direction. Don't get me wrong I like having some play-ability to my figures but I can't get over the fixated stares.

P.
11-05-2016, 06:57 AM
PERS is really helpful for a terminator figure. first - it gives him "dead eyes", and second - Schwarzenegger did those underbrow stares a lot in both roles, which is easily replicated on these figures.

a-dev
11-05-2016, 07:01 AM
PERS was useful but there's no getting away from that slightly unnatural look, even on DX13. So I wish we could have had it both ways.

Yeah PERS was a double aged sword. Good for posing but seemed to mess the sculpt up, Having said that DX Jack Sparrow was one of HT's best likenesses. Seems like HT ditched PERS when they ditched the DX line.

Jack Sparrow wore eye-liner though and that really helped disguise the unnatural shadow created by the thick eyelids on the figure. Terminator figures didn't have that advantage.

Excellent point.

As for the DX-13, it's still one of my favorites, as is the original mms117.

I'm not a fan of the DX-10 headsculpt, though. Can the DX-13 headsculpt fit on the DX-10 body?

Consensus seems to go against the DX10 head. There's things it does better than any of the other heads though. The shape of his face is more accurate than any other sculpt Hot Toys did and I think they got the slope of his forehead most accurate on DX10. The others look a bit too caveman.

Trouble is it has so much else wrong with it. :lol

I've seen some people put DX13 heads on the DX10 body but others have had problems. If you don't use the particular neck plug from the DX13 it might be either too loose or, worse, too tight and it could break the plug on the DX10 body. Also the DX10 neck might be a little skinny for the DX13 head and you could have gaps.

But let's be honest here. If a new figure did come out it would probably have as many problems to mull over as this one. Hard to get a perfect figure and especially hard to get a perfect Arnold sculpt. The Commando figure was far from perfect.

At this point I don't think I'll be satisfied with a 1:6 Arnold sculpt until I learn how to use Zbrush and do it myself - and I'll either nail it after spending as much time as it ****ing takes or I'll find out why no one has managed to do it :lol

The sculpt, to me, is one of the best. I have the Murphy Robocop and I believe the DX13 is comparable to that amazing sculpt.

What would you say is the best sculpt done of Arnold? Including the 1/4 Enterbay figure.

I've considered the Murphy Robocop sculpts perfect myself. Now are they literally perfect? I actually haven't looked into it. I don't want to. I don't want to discover that they aren't (if indeed they aren't). And this is why I feel reluctant to go into detail about my feelings about the various Hot Toys Arnie sculpts. A) because I've done so countless times before and B) because not everyone wants to have things pointed out - it's nice to believe that what you have is perfect and doesn't need any improvement whatsoever.

So I think I'll just say that the single best sculpt at high end is the Enterbay BD. Unfortunately it's only half a face but I think there's enough information there to say that if the same sculptor had been commissioned to do a clean sculpt or even the semi-bd version it would have been perfect or near perfect.

The best Hot Toys sculpt is likewise the T2 full BD sculpt from DX13. With some minor hair alterations I'd be fully content with this one.

The best low end sculpts are NECA's Tech Noir (long hair), BD Tech Noir (with eyebrows singed off) and Dutch 'Jungle Extraction'

Congrats! Definitely one of HT's best. If you can, get some weathering done, it really makes the figure more accurate and pop out. I wasn't a believer in making a perfectly fine figure look worn (sounds stupid!) until I tried it myself and it makes a world of difference.

Thanks, I didn't even think to mention the context, haha. Anyway, I have a print coming of the control box, I can't wait to see it. I also have an idea for the attached cable where I can make it very poseable rather than just leaving a loose cord hanging from the box.

I'm intrigued.....

So I bought this stuff for another project called gooseneck tubing... it's the sort of flexible, poseable tubing used for things like boom mics on headsets and for this USB lights you can wrap around things. Anyway, I plan on using this as it is poseable, and to make it look like insulated cable, I was going to use black heat shrink tube around it, then attach the whole thing to the control box. That way you can pose the box and cable in any position you want and it will look natural, yet be able to hold its own shape. I hope that makes sense....

Sorry this is WAY off topic for the DX13 thread but here is the flexible, poseable tubing in action for my Doc Ock project...

Anybody know any good replacement options for the DX13 pants belt? I got a second, clothed body and wanted to switch to my spare MMS117 pants to hide the damaged knee, but the DX13 belt pretty much disintegrated like my MMS117 belt did.

I expect this is common, so I figure somebody has managed a fix or replacement. Glue only makes it worse.

Well to be fair maybe it's hard to make a 1:6 scale trouser belt that won't fall apart with use sooner or later - unless you make it plastic. Although if it happens when it was something you only just bought that was listed as 'new' it's harder to take.

I'm thinking tomorrow I'm going to finally try to finish my DX10 endo arm. So I purchased a spare DX13 battle damaged arm and a spare MMS117 endo arm. I cut the endo arm out of the flesh, now I just need to cut off the BD remains. Keep my figure in the corner of my room out of direct sunlight, standard room temperature for the UK. Checked my belt and its fine. It's common to have issues with the belt, it rots easily along with the DX10. The outfit itself though, isn't leather and there doesn't seem to be any issues with it.

The pleather they use on all their figures in general can have peeling problems over time. It's best not to handle it too much. If you're the type who's constantly reposing and fussing with it, then there may be problems.

I've had a few belts disintegrate on me because I've done a lot of kitbashing over the years (not necessarily DX13 belts, but MMS117 and DX10). And it's a problem because as time has gone on replacements are harder to come by.

Has anyone converted their MMS117 into a partially BD using thhesopare DX13 parts? How does the neck area look? Any photos? I would love to make a BD 2nd figure.

I have taken the MMS117 internal neck adaptor out before and it looks like the DX10 head can fit on with no problem.

I'm sure I've probably tried every combination at some point in the past but I can't remember the results. If I were to throw out a guess though I don't think a DX13 head would work on an MMS117 body both from the POV of joint compatibility and head-size/neck thickness.

Marine Boy
03-17-2018, 10:36 AM
I upgraded my MMS117 using the head and body from the DX10. The heads are not interchangeable, probably deliberate on HT's part, so to force collectors into buying the whole figure. The MMS117 head looked very undersize when next to the DX10 and 13.

What is the best body to use for the second BD head in the DX13? Is it better to puchase a second DX10 body, DX13 body or a Phicen style body? Are there any issues with the Phicen leg and neck pegs/joints?

Crazydragonclk
03-23-2018, 07:01 AM
it is possible to use the heads, u have to pop out the inner joint but it looks skinny necked/long neckedon the mms117.

I use pliers and I am able to pull out the inner joint socket. I also tried wrapping this joint with thick doube sided tape which expands the rubber neck but it still looks long necked and the BD head on it has a 2-4mm gap from the rubber to the actual head/hair line which looks ugly if you see the figure from any other angle but face on.

Thatswhy I am looking for an alternative replacement body for the 2nd BD head

If anyone has a spare mms117 body and is looking to build their 2nd battle damaged T-800 this mod is fairly easy and worthwhile especially if you are on a budget.
