Just for fun... :wink1:

I don't have any tattoos... :monkey3

I'm considering getting one at CVI... :r2d2line

For the record, I want a Yoda or R2 on my left shoulder. :bunnydanc

I've actually heard that local artists have been fighting to get space at C6. They had to go through a rigorous interview.

I thought the same thing. More funny to keep it around. I'll actually get one if I can swing the payment and the investment of time it would take. It's at the top of my itinerary to stop by the tattoo pavilion on Thursday.

Forces are conspiring against me. I started looking through the confirmed artists to possibly make contact and an appointment, and the first artist I chose, and fell in love with their work, I quickly found out that they will in fact not be attending CVI due to tendinitis! Dayum...

Back to the drawing board. I really liked her work. Not going to commit unless I feel completely at ease with the artist's portfolio...

Yoda

Or R2
http://0.media.dorkly.cvcdn.com/18/27/b47848006d72077fec089847300ad691.jpg

Personally I think Yoda makes for the better tattoo because he can fit the curvature of your body better than a technical drawing like R2 but as you can see above, if the artist is good enough anything is possible.

furystorm
08-19-2012, 10:06 PM
That Yoda is very nice, but if I do go with Yoda, he will be a full figure and hopefully far closer to the original ESB/ROTJ incarnation.

I'm leaning about 60/40 toward R2 though, because he is in all of the films. And by all of the films, I mean all three original trilogy films. Just saying, if I pull this off, this will be my tribute to those films. Not so much the prequels.

And: On the hand!!! :horror

Feel a bit weird as I've gone back and forth throughout the day, leaning mostly toward Yoda. But the thought of a botched likeness is really keeping me going back to R2 over and over.

So now it's like 75/25 Artoo. :D

Still, it would be a game time decision and depends on what I see in the artists' portfolios.

No response from my chosen fellow as of yet. :(

I won't half ass it. It's my skin and I'll have to live with it forever! I was thinking of swinging by official pix and getting an image there. I don't have a ton of source material (aside from the internet), but I do have the Art of McQuarrie book, and we all know that's not a screen version. I know Waller would probably say McQuarrie R2 FTW, but I want the film version. I've been looking at tons of images of actual tats on the internet, and pulling the ones I like. That's what has swung me so hard away from Yoda. "Not good, the likenesses are."

Plus, I figure it's a Star Wars Celebration. These artists should have portfolios full of SW characters and work. If I don't see what I like, I'll move on to the next artist. Shame the one I really liked, is out and cannot attend. Then my second choice has not responded to my email. But I know it's late in the game. It is likely that all the best are booked up already, and if so, then it will sadly be a no go. Hell, I don't even know what a tat costs! So we'll see what happens.

Well, it depends on the artist and the size, complexity, etc. Roughly what size are you thinking? For example, I had a pretty simple design done on my left shoulder a couple months ago, it was about 5"x5" and cost me $200. I'd imagine you'd be looking at $300-350 for what you're looking for. It sounds as if you have a solid battle plan though. :clap I'm excited for you, dude!!

furystorm

A nicely sized Artoo on my upper left shoulder, or should I say deltoid? I figure prices may be jacked at the show, because it is a Star Wars convention after all, but was hoping for it to be under $500. Another question I have is: Do you tip your artist? I have absolutely no idea. Although my sister is all tatted up, and I've even sat with her during one of her sessions, I don't know the protocol, etc.

Yeah, I have a plan. I just feel like I might not be able to get what I want at the show. I want a photorealistic type of tat, but still want color, because I think it's important in this character study. We'll see what is in the portfolios. I really only have Thursday to Saturday to get something as Sunday is travel home day after noon. We'll see though, because I really want one, and I really want it to be at CVI too. It's become a priority and a first stop on the convention floor, maybe right after picking up prints from ACME. But they are preordered. Just want to get them out of the way.

I'm nervous, but excited. Can't stop saying, "We'll see." :panic:

Funny, you must read minds, because I was just looking at a few images of him flying and thought...

**** that! Artoo can't fly. What the **** is that ****? Damn.

After CVI, I'm feeling that I'm going to swear off the PT for good. Having just gone through them all on blu one last time, I was counting good to bad points (in my opinion only) and the bad far outweighed the good.

Whatever luster having the PTs around created has long since vanished. I'm pretty much done with them now...

Hey man, yeah i have openings at the show. I haven't made any appointments for it, just going to be doing first come first served. Swing by when you get to the show and I'll get you taken care of.

Uh ya, I wouldn't be concerned that you don't see any Star Wars in his portfolio. His work looks impeccable. Beautiful. Just make sure you take ridiculous care of it when it is healing because anyone's art can look like crap if the client slacks on the aftercare. Plus being that you are having it done at a convention, getting him to do touch ups (if he's willing) may be tough if he's not local. Take care of that **** yo! :)
