TDKR BANE HIDEOUT: Theatracality and Breaking the Bat

http://youtu.be/4RGbrEmVrhc

While waiting for Bane, I decided to give him some digs to let his games begin!

This will be a modular Dio maybe up to 3 pieces havent decided yet. But as requested, here's a couple of pics from the main module. I have more supplies hopefully getting here for the weekend and I can show alot more with the framework more defined.

Hi! I'll have to make a decision after completing this first one. Done properly it will be a great art piece and pretty expensive just in materials used. It looks like this thing is going to tip the scales at 20 lbs!!!!:yess: I'll keep you posted.

UPDATE:

Received the last of my metal and cast the remaining pieces I needed. Just about ready to start putting this together. A LOT of prep goes into this thing. If you screw something up, you most likely will ruin the piece with this. Have to be careful with cuts and measurements. Measure 3 times cut once!

Got the main supports and back wall together. Lol just the back glass with a figure up looks good! Can't imagine what this is going to look like together. Very heavy and takes patience and care to work with.
The back wall and supports alone are 3 pounds 10 oz. Completed its going to be easily over 20 lbs.

The perspex scratches very easily. Definitely going to have to invest in some polish!

Started measuring the final dimensions of this badboy, checking the height on the door swings.

Also took some time to play around with the optics on the Makrolon. Seems to project light quite well. Can't see very well in the picture but the light prisms down throught the sides of the pieces, pretty cool.

Be intresting to see how to best finish the lighting off within the vault.

Update for the night:

Got the front cage housing top and step up platforms created. Need to polish the angles of the glass housing. This was rough , wasted 2 pieces of material with router jumping off the table. Stinks as this is a big pice to ruin. Was praying to greater powers to get a clean cut. Tomorrow I'll be starting the doors and door swings on the base.

Thanks for all of the positive remarks, starting to feel like Indiana Jones on some damned fool crusade for the holy grail trying to piece this thing together!:lol

Cheers!

Got lucky, just looked at the front cage glass and was afraid the framing was too high to the body, but forgot I have to shave 3/8 of an inch off the bottom to brace over the step up platform. Should be ok and level with the cowl mouth and angle more at the shoulders per referrence.

Hello, I used plastic to build the frames and then molded in silicone and cast in a tin/pewter ore mixture. Needed some antimony and copper in the mixture to harden the metals. Working with low temp metals they are not as strong obviously as aluminum or steel so that helps keep it at a stronger composition to be able to take a drill and screw [Insert a thats what she said joke here].

seanh5134
08-08-2012, 06:17 AM
Im yet to do any molding and casting but it looks like a necessity with this piece. How did you go about making them in plastic? as the originals look like a solid piece? assuming the creamy coloured ones in the 1st few pics are the originals that is.

Hi folks, I added a disclaimer for this project to the top post. I'm starting to get questions on building this and for the people trying this please BE CAREFUL! Do not want people getting injured. There are very serious ways to get hurt or worse with the tools and materials used for this project. :medic

UPDATE:

Been away with work again, so havent been able to progress as much on this as much as I would like. But I am through a project, so time will be available.

Got the inner frame built on the main container. This was a *****! :gah: I must have wasted about 1 square foot of material. My patience is tried hourly with this thing.

The main Front glass needs to be shaved down on the sides and within the inner frame. I had to get the cuts measured in before shaving it else this piece would look like *****. :)

Finally can set the door posts tomorrow. Will begin hanging them and much more "fun" updates will be sent.:yess:

Update for the night:

I was able to get the ceiling of the suit closet up and leveled and got the base cut out and started attaching to the platform.

Also cut out the metal support braces for the vault doors, need to cut a couple of big pieces of perspex to finish attachment of these.

Tomorrow us build-a-block day to start framing the 8 outside boxes, then into the weapons racks. Had to change course on the weapon racks, have to secure other pieces so I kind of jumped ahead there. :lecture

Then bore the holes and install the suit closet lights. Need to get some recessed light casings for the LEDs.

hahaha No unfortunately that case isn't real. A dude auto-cad/photoshoped that a little while ago. Saw on a thread they were trying to get it submitted for the blu-ray jewel case.

I'm sure that it is too late for that to get into the production run. The collectors edition trilogy set will be out by November.

Can't wait for update, man!

Sorry for lack of updates guys. I'm fighting the company I purchased my styrene from right now. They said they shipped my supplies yet I have not received them. I think they are going to ship them this week and i can get back to building.

In the meantime I was busy building up my Terminator Police shootout and the CB750 FOUR motorcycle from the movie.

Back to basics soon!

I'm guessing it's stock. He mentioned in the other thread he was waiting on the TTM20 to have this one replaced. :wave

Nice!:) Thanks for the info my friend! It seems that with the stock arms it can be posed well with the specific jacket.

True. Guess it has more space around the armpit than the stock Jacket. :lol

Can't wait to see the rest of your project!

Maybe it has been mentioned, but where do you guys find grids like those? Any places in particular?

Thank's in advance.
