Painting tips for Headsculpt

I was wondering what the best way would be to go about painting a bald head would be. I know for the face it consist's of many thin washes of acrylic paint for the skin but i wanted to know how to create the appearance of the shaved head i know grey is involved but not much else. I also i know of the technique of painting a headsculpt with a thin wash and then pastels, but can one go about it another way without using pastels? any help would be very much appreciated.
