Facebook just got posted!!!! It's 1/6, right?!??!?!? All their previous premium formats came with a note about it being PF... the 1/6 Vader also didn't have a scale designation!

I hope he gets revealed before SDCC.... this has to mean a new Han Solo is on the way right?? Didn't HT mention their next Star Wars DX being Han Solo or Anakin Skywalker?
Stuff like this reminds me why I love Sideshow so much!

I hope it is 1/6th, though I'm not entirely convinced just yet. I'd reckon it's more likely to be PF, though I hope I'm wrong.

I'm betting PF.
They said in an earlier Ask Sideshow session that 3 of the 4 characters were coming in PF...
I LOVE THE STAR WARS PREMIUM FORMAT FIGURES, AND HAVE ALMOST ALL OF THEM! I AM WONDERING IF IN 2013 WE CAN GET A SNOWTROOPER, LANDO, CHEWBACCA, OR THE DROIDS WE HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR?
Man, you’re right on track with us here. Three of the four you listed are on tap for reveals within 2012 – be sure to stay tuned for our “May the Fourth” celebration next week! We love delivering good news :)

In my excitement, I didn't think the picture of Chewie being formed from quotations was a replica of the actual product. I just noticed it didn't have anything mentioned regarding Premium Format. D'oh... still holding out hope. Should have thrown a question mark into the title of the thread though.

Why don't they just make clear in the tease that it's PF or 1/6? Getting a bit tired of this. The "tease" is supposed to be a hint at how they have achieved the character, not what format it is in.
And yes, it's looking like a sculpted fur PF, just as the Ask Sideshow stated. Jan 2010 Ask Sideshow:
Q. Is a Chewbacca Premium Format a possibility?
A. Yes, it is a possibility. The more we discuss Chewie for the PF line, the more we lean toward a sculpted-fur version.
Calls into serious question whether they will ever do a 1/6 Chewy with fur. I mean, PF is a static figure and they won't do fur on it? Seems like fur is just too much work. Has any 1/6 figure covered in fur ever been done?
Personally, I think the only chance for a SSC 1/6 Chewy would be essentially the Hasbro 3 3/4" VOTC figure in 12". i.e. slightly rubbery plastic with flowing fur sculpted over joints. Maybe with really good paint it would look okay - you'd get a few good poses. Gammy showed they are willing to do nearly a full body sculpt from scratch.
Entropy

I agree with those that this is a 1/4 sculpted Chewy PF.
I think HT is our best bet for a 1/6 Chewy with fur. No doubt the rooted hair = Barbie, they're 'posable action figure collectibles not dolls' crowd will be grumpy but Chewy with fur is a must.

Good that they're doing the PF because I still believe that once something gets PF'd it's just a matter of time before we get the 1/6th version.
Anyway, any Chewie is welcome. That said, I don't do statues.
MidnightClad
06-14-2012, 05:54 PM
I hope its a PF because I would really like for HT to do the 1/6 chewie since they have dabbled in actual hair on a figure and would probably do a better job.

Primarily because a 1/6 Chewbacca with fur would be a technological and artistic breakthrough, whereas a sculpted Chewbacca statue would be a same ol' same 'ol upgrade to all the models etc that have come before.
It just seems they should have gone the extra couple of miles and done a real furred statue. The thing is static, a fraction of the complexity of figuring out an articulated (and much smaller) furred 1/6 Chewy. I think a sculpted fur Chewy would have worked for the PF line a few years back, but not in the days of an articulated PF C-3PO.
A real fur Chewy would have gotten me into the PF line (Threepio and Artoo still might,) but a sculpted fur Chewy is an easy pass.

I'm pretty sure I was born after Burton's Batman film.
Regardless... Star Wars was my first love. As much as I love Christopher Nolan and his movies... only Star Wars can compel me to buy a ton of background characters, some of whom aren't even in the films! (Captain Rex, Greedo, Boil & Waxer, etc.) Whenever my friends and I go out... we don't call shotgun... we call Chewie! :)

I will forgive most of that but Greedo a background character? GREEDO??? He was clearly shot in the foreground and is an essential character showing that Han Solo is a cheater.

I'd say I was about 5 or 6. Saw it on VHS at a family friend's house who was watching my brother and I. It didn't start a phase for me though. I admit that I wanted and got a 3.75" Jedi Luke from whatever toy line was going on for SW in the early 90's. But it didn't stick, not like transformers or DC/Marvel characters did. but now SW tops just about everything accept for Superman, Transformers and maybe Lord of the Rings in terms of favorites. In terms of collectibles, Star Wars rules each display case since I have too many transformers to even display.

And not every child watches it, my parents haven't seen them and neither have many if not most of my closest friends

Changed the title to be less certain... I'm still hopeful its a 1/6 figure. But if it is a PF and sculpted that does not bode well for any advancements being made in a 1/6 figure. If they don't go for realism in 1/4 I can't imagine they would in 1/6 :huh'

I've always thought the Gentle Giant bust was very cool looking because of how they sculpted the hair. But, that just wouldn't work in 1/6 so I don't know how Sideshow could convincingly pull off one of the most important characters like this and still be poseable.

No, since it's a PF, my hope is renewed. So long as we don't have a sculpted 1:6 announcement, there's still a chance that (if we get him at all) he'll have fur.
A statue doesn't need fur because it doesn't move. An action figure has to move. It's fur or nothing.
If Sideshow can't, maybe Hot Toys can. If Hot Toys can't, there's Enterbay.
Damn, that was the easiest win ever :lol

It looks like it is a 1:6 per the clues on the site:
Clue #1
"not to be confused with the bronzed celebrities.."this tells me it is not a statue
Clue#2
"a walking carpet?" (tells me it has articulation)
What else could it be but a 1:6 articulated "walking carpet" figure.
