I've always loved the Dresden Files and have been on the look out for similar series. I don't know if it's a limited series or ongoing like Dresden, but the Iron Druid Chronicles by Kevin Hearne is very entertaining. Hounded is the first book.

I've listened to the first 4 Dresden books now thanks to your recommendation. I'm hooked. I've got the next couple all ready to go once I finish the Family Corleone. Might give this a shot after I finish with Dresden.

I've been hearing about the Dresden Files from people at work. It does look interesting so I'll have to take a look.

I really enjoyed the Dresden file, one of my favorite urban fantasy series, though I felt after about book 9 it's really begun to drag, almost to much of a good thing. It's too bad the Syfy channel series didn't last very long.

I don't read much of urban fantasy anymore but I highly recommend Kim Harrison's series Rachel Morgan/the Hollows. It's similar in style to Dresden but with a female main character. Plus all the book titles are take offs of Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns!

I've read all the Dresden Files but the last, and read 3 Iron Druid books (the next two are Hexed and Hammered).

Have you read Anita Blake - these were what inspired the author of the Dresden files. The sex stuff gets a bit much around book 5 or so, but she seems to have pulled back from it in the most recent.

I also recommend the Nightside series. Pretty cool.

Sounds like the Anne Rice vampire books - they eventually became gay porn and then Christian porn.

I've read about 5 Anita Blake books and it's true after a while they stop being urban fantasy and head into soft-core porn, friend of mine's wife has read all of her books and said the later ones are pretty much women's hard-core porn furry style. I remember reading an interview with True Bloods Alan Ball a few years back and the Anita Blake series was on his radar as a HBO show but he ended up going with Harris's True Blood. Would have been interesting to see as an HBO show.

A few years back I read a series by Justin Gustainis that started with Black Magic Women, it's not a big name author but it's pretty good.

Another good recommendation would be Mike Carey's Felix Castor series, it's a bit like the vertigo Hellblazer comic series. It's a bit more grounded then most urban fantasy (which I like) and Carey's always been a quality writer, so definitely worth checking out.

I've been enjoying the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews. It's set in Atlanta and goes on the premise that tech and magic comes in waves. When the magic is up the world pretty much gets shoved into the Dark Ages. Its an interesting concept.
