HK Figure Club interviewed Howard Chan recently. Here are the highlights of the interview :

-Hot Toys will launch 7 or 8 characters from The Avengers.
-Hulk is in progress, the body will not be fully Rubber.
-Black Widow will have a new body and hair are sculpted.
-Loki suit will be the one of The Avengers, the Thor Suit Version was canceled.
-Captain America Golden Age Version is still scheduled.
-Tony Stark Race Suit Version and Whiplash Armor Version have been set aside because of an overloaded schedule.
-The X-Men First Class range is almost complete, it will be announced soon.
-The license Green Lantern was canceled.
-The licences of Iron Man 3, Superman Man Of Steel and Wolverine will be exploited.
-The next Star Wars figures should be Anakin and Han Solo, followed by a character from Episode II.
-Rambo or Rocky should be a DX but are not yet in production.

I was expecting 7 or 8 figures from The Avengers, I was wondering when the X-Men FC figures would be announced...There was no doubt in my mind that IM3, Superman, Wolverine would bombard us with more figs..They forgot to mention TDKR and Amazing Spiderman.
I will take any Star Wars figures...EP II character? I really would only want Jango or Mace, but I won't complain, just as it looks good.
I hope for a Rambo DX over Rocky, but I'll take it.
As for GL, eff it the movie wasn't that good, but I guess it sucks not getting a Reynolds' Hal Jordan.

3A is starting to look like a genuine option for geek licenses. Then there's Enterbay. But Medicom doesn't really produce high end quality products IMO, and Sideshow only does Star Wars and GI Joe. There really aren't many options for fans of geek properties.

3A is starting to look like a genuine option for geek licenses. Then there's Enterbay. But Medicom doesn't really produce high end quality products IMO, and Sideshow only does Star Wars and GI Joe. There really aren't many options for fans of geek properties.

3A has caught my attention in a big way this year, the last four figures i bought were ThreeA figs, HT is great for licensed properties but they are lazy and shortsighted, sticking 90% to the same franchises and characters, it's boring and stale

The only figures i'm interested in From HT are original franchises and characers, which there is very few of.

I know how they feel as they said they were doing a Jason Statham from the first expendables and they never. Not only would I want that figure but i'd want about 5 of the heads loose for other figures. I would have loved an update on the Expendables 2 license in this interview!

bummer they held back the armor version whiplash. I am excited about the Avengers tho. I wish they could come up with new Resident evil figures as RE6 is coming out late this year. this is the reason why I havent bought Chris or Leon for scalper prices, because if they do the RE6 figs, we will get a much better sculpted version and current of these two char, since they are both main char in the game.
GL, dont really have any effect on me. I would have liked to hear more about future Batman figures such as the release date of Joker 2.0 and perhaps a 90's Catwoman and Penguin, the Riddler and the awesome Poison Ivy and Robin LOL.
Lex Luthor would be cool. we got superman father, C, Reeve and we now need an enemy!

Medicom has cornered the market on Japanese licensed characters like Kamen Riders and Ultraman. They are really good at those - I collect them. Anything outside of that realm is hit-or-miss. Their SW droids line is pretty nice I have to say.

More like 8-10. ThreeA releases very little actual original material within their own Ashley Wood stuff, but they do a much better job with licenses. Seriously what they have showcased for Portal, Halo, Metal Gear, ABC Warriors, and Real Steel are exceptional. These are high quality well priced figures with no BS attached.

Rocky and Rambo are always in their plans but those 2 licenses are 2 things they can always fall back on,so those will always be a once in a long time releases.Always been and always will be.

You haven't been paying attention. The 2-in-1 Superman as a re-issue of the Returns Superman. The thing that put them on the map was the first series of TDK figures, one of which was a re-done version of their earlier MMS figure. Then a Cannibal King Jack Sparrow, a redone version of the Jack Sparrow MMS.

Go through the list here http://hottoyspricelist.blogspot.com/ And look at how many of the same thing they've done over and over again. Predator over and over, Alien over and over. Ripley re-released with a Power Loader is the exact same as Iron Man re-released with Gantry.

You have an extremely skewed and biased view of what HT is doing. How many Robocops and Rambos and Predators did they do?? They did one from every movie. And how is that different from them doing one Iron Man from every movie??

- Two uniforms: First Blood: jeans, tank top, M65 and combat boots; this will take care of FB outfits. Black BDU, black tank top; this takes care of R2 and R3.

All in all it's more news than we've gotten in months so glad to hear some updates.

Pretty much as expected. although I wonder if they are counting that Mk III Avengers Iron Man?

I suppose this is good news since they have problems with the rubber bods. I would imagine an all rubber Hulk would fall over. Since it's going to be a unique body with few reuse applications I'm sure it's not going to be cheap.

Looking forward to it. I wonder if this means HT has a new & improved female body ready to go. Preferably something without a jillion ball joints.

-Loki suit will be the one of The Avengers, the Thor Suit Version was canceled.
I wanted the Thor version because it was more ornate, but Loki is Loki and I don't need two.

-Captain America Golden Age Version is still scheduled.
I doubt I'd get this since so much else is coming out, unless it's sub $150.

Wasn't terribly interested anyway.

-The X-Men First Class range is almost complete, it will be announced soon.
Personally I would prefer X2 and X3 to FC. Wolverine, Cyclops, Jean, Storm, Beast, Iceman, Rogue, Magneto, Colossus, Mystique, Nightcrawler, Deathstrike. The only ones I'd want from XFC would be Azazel and Magneto. I'd also probably pick up Emma.

-The license Green Lantern was canceled.
Not unexpected. Hopefully a hungry 1:6 company will get the license. I'd been hoping at least for a GL, Sinestro (yellow) and Guardian.

-The licences of Iron Man 3, Superman Man Of Steel and Wolverine will be exploited.
Since IM3 is a couple of years away, this comes as no surprise. Superman will depend on how the movie and characters look, but this could be great news.

-The next Star Wars figures should be Anakin and Han Solo, followed by a character from Episode II.
Hopefully the Ep II character will be arena Padme or ObiWan. They are going to have to step up production if this line is going to take hold though. No interest in seeing one or two characters trickle out a year.

-Rambo or Rocky should be a DX but are not yet in production.
This could be the best announcement of the day. I'm mostly interested in the Rocky line. I'm assuming the DX will still be 1:6. Hopefully they will redo Rocky III, Rocky IV, Apollo, Clubber and Drago with much better sculpts, fight damaged change-o heads, and a few extra accessories. I'd also like a street clothes Rocky.

As for what they didn't update that I'd like to get some news about...

Maybe, maybe not. All depends on the actor and what they are looking for in a sculpt. Considering what Hasbro sculpts look like and get approved, I can't imagine a good HT sculpt wouldn't get approval the first time around unless the actor was wanting something specific to be done.

Both RDJ and Favreau made perfect sense for the studios because they didn't have any mega blockbusters in their resume to demand mega bucks. Now that they do, these guys immediately go into 7 year itch mode, even if it means rebooting and destroying your franchise.

On the other hand, successful directors/actors demand a lot more money with every sequel, threatening the financial feasibility of the franchise in the long run.

Would you rather that the franchise continues with a new actor (Ruffalo, anyone?) or to terminate it because the lead is asking for too much.

In the end, the actors are in blockbusters for name recognition and dough, not for the "art." IM kickstarted RDJ's career so he gained as much from it as Marvel did. I'd like to see him continue indefinitely as the IM, but if I had to choose between him or IM, I'd side with the latter every time.

I remember reading last year that Chris Evans signed for 3 Cap movies and 3 Avenger movies and how that excludes any cameos in other heroes' movies since those cameos would count against this limit and the studio would have to negotiate with him again if they used him for cameos. Basically, he said that if they dare (ab)use him for mere guest star appearances in future Thor, IM etc movies, they'd have to cough up big bucks indeed to have him show up for Avengers 3 or Cap 3.

So yah, it is basically and only about the money.
