Pride of Baghdad is a masterpiece! I've got to reacquire it - in HC. In addition, Bone and Watchmen are a must, too. I got out of comics when my wife was pregnant the first time and now I selectively get back to them. I'm caught up on The Walking Dead and am working right now on Fables. Batman The Long Halloween never left me though.

Finally found my grail of comics for a decent price. Will be meeting Stan Lee in Calgary in a couple weeks. This will be signed :rock

Getting deeper into the Hamaverse with IDWs new G.I. Joe comics.
I'm also revisiting the Joe classics from Marvel. Will likely end up recollecting the comic books or buying the TPB ones.
For the time being I'm enjoying looking at the old school G.I. Joe marvel classics. Reading #1-#155

great Cap #100 KBA! i have a couple myself.
i tried collecting CGC but i just can't get behind the whole premise of it. sure, sports cards & coins yeah...but a book? plus every time i turn around i'm hearing about some controversy with it. another mega dealer that's slipped trimming or something past their super restoration detection, or how the owners or management are involved in some fraud.
right now i'm trying to get through "House of Leaves" but damn, it can be irritating!

Thanks guys! Yeah, I'm not too fussed with CGC. The condition is fine, and this way I can go get it professionally framed, maybe with a picture of me with Stan.
The only old comic that I really care about getting is a copy of Issue #1 of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I missed my chance on midtown comics to get a good first printing for around $300 around 6 months ago :gah:. I honestly don't care about the condition I just want one and not pay an arm and a leg for it.

Can you post any links for me showing irregularities at the CGC?
I should have clarified my previous post. I starting reading/collecting Marvel comics as a kid in the mid 70s. Of course I buy current raw newsstand issues and beater reading copies of silver/bronze age books.
But now that I have disposable income as an adult, I like to buy books in CGC 9.8 grade for those special issues I liked as a kid. Mostly for sentimental value and display purposes next to my statues.
A tiny part of it is for investment purposes but that's the last thing on my mind. I wouldn't trust raw books from anyone unless it was graded by a 3rd party professional or else it's a beater/reading copy.
Sorry about the confusion. :peace

I think the book is half analysis, and half biography of Grant Morrison. I've heard the superhero analysis is reasonably insightful ... and the Morrison biography parts are pretentious, self-aggrandizing and self-absorbed.

Stan 'The Man' Lee signing my Cap 100 I showed you guys earlier. He was in great spirits, shook my hand, and slid my comic and card over to me saying 'It's all yours!'. His agents kept all interactions to a bare minimum, you really couldnt talk to him in Calgary. Wish I could have chatted with him. What a gong show line up it was too. Tons of people were sent away.

Picked up a marvel graphic novel "the siege" this weekend and I loved it. I stopped reading really after civil war so i was a little lost but I enjoyed it very much. Going to the comic shop this weekend to buy some material that will bridge the gap between civil war and siege... I stared at the page when sentry ripped ares in half for a good 5 minutes thinking how bad *** that was. Anyone have any suggestions on where to go after siege for good reading? I was thinking house of m heard it was good

I think Secret Invasion comes before Siege but can't be sure.
House of M is by all accounts very good.
I would recommend Thanos Imperative as that's awesome but follows on from the Annihilation story arc so I would recommend reading them first but they are mostly OOP so can be hard to find & expensive.

I've been rereading old GN's, because of my money situation not really allowing for any new comic purchases.
But I've been on a Batman kick due to the new film.. just got done reading Batman: Year One, The Long Halloween, The Killing Joke, and The Man Who Laughs.

Just picked up the graphic novel "Wasteland:Apocalyptic Edition" both volumes 1 and 2. So far I am loving this comic and I am also surprised that even though this comic is in black and white, it is still a fantastic graphic novel. I am definately glad I got into this story...my interest in picking up this graphic novel series was from watching one of my favorite movies "the Book of Eli". I was looking for a graphic novel that had a strong post apocalyptic feel to it and this one definately has all that. :)

Oh absolutely! I loved it.. it's a nice take on Batman and Gordon's first encounter with the Joker. The only problem with it is that it is criminally short. I wish it would have had more to it.
And I have all three of the Loeb/Sale Batman books... I wish they would team up again, because those books are second only to Miller's Batman stuff. I liked Superman: For All Seasons but it wasn't as good as their Batman work.
Spider-Man: Blue was badass however. :D

I should be receiving the first volume of "the Absolute Sandman" Hard Copy edition hopefully this Monday, I paid close to $70.00 for this but from what I have been told it is an awesome comic to get into. I am also in the process of finishing up "Preacher". I have all issues in the paperback verions. So far finishing up volume 2 and I am definately excited that I decided to get back into dark comics again. I do read a huge amount of regular novels...however, having the artwork of a comic book in front of me as I am diving into the story is an extremely fun way to spend my nights.
"Preacher is funner than going to the movies"!!...lol, kind of a corny quote from Kevin Smith on the cover of the first volume...not sure I agree with that 100% but sometimes I do feel like that when reading a novel or comic.

I have this coming as well. Did you order it from amazon? If not they have the pre order price for less than 60.
Yup. I am an Amazon-shop-a-holic. I have to renew my Prime membership at the end of the month, but IMO it's completely worth it.
~~I'm about halfway through Incorporated. Will probably finish it tonight. Is Batman: Court of Owls any good?? That popped up on my recommended reading list on Amazon so I figured I might get it to go through before Sinestro Corps War comes in.

Yeah Prime is awesome! I got 6 months free for being a student and then it renews in a couple of months for half off :yess: and yes Court of Owls was very good. Scott Snyder is my 2nd favorite writer. He knows how to write good but dark stories. If you get it and enjoy it try out his other books. American Vampire Swamp Thing "new 52" and my favorite Severed

Just getting back into Comics/Graphic Novels over the past few months after about a 16 year layoff and loving them much much more than I used to.
Here are a few I recently picked up which are:
"The Absolute Sandman, Vol. 1"...Have not started this one yet as I am currently still in the process of finishing "Preacher" first which is incredible..I am up to "Ancient History" so far. I had no idea the book for the version of Sandman I got was going to be this huge (I bought it kind of in a spur of a moment without much thinking) so I really hope I do enjoy getting into Sandman, I hear Neil Gaiman is supposed to have written incredible stuff so I do not think one can go wrong with the Sandman...time will tell for me.
I also decided to check out Clive Barker's new "Hellraiser" comics which are now in Graphic Novel form from "BOOM Studios". I understand that both he and a guy by the name of Christopher Monfette are both Authors of this new Hellraiser story and so far I am pretty impressed just 2 volumes in (Prelude, and Chapters 1-4...then Volume 2 has Chapters 5-8).
IMO this is how Hellraiser should have turned out unlike what Hollywood did with Hell on Earth. Not giving anything away but Pinhead's character is much different in these comics. Any Hellraiser fans like myself should definately pick these up especially for as cheap as they can be had from Amazon.
Here is some nice pictures:

Interesting feedback on Hellraiser thanks mate - as this is one I've never read (and never seen the movies) but always been interested in because of just how dark and twisted the whole pinhead character appears in the pictures.

How is "Joker" by Lee Bermjo?
Yeah, I read the Court of Owls arc digitally and LOVED it. Had to get it in hardcover.. also got a few individual issues here and there.
Halfway through the Black Mirror and it is UNREAL. Not surprised considering it's the arc that got Snyder the Batman gig in New 52. Highly recommended.
Also just finished "Batman: The Man Who Laughs" and it is also a deadset ripper.

"The Joker" is a great book.
You get to follow Joker from the eyes of a small-time gangster whom wants nothing more than to become Joker's right hand man...
And it quickly escalates from there :wink1:
There is also a few well known characters from the Batman-univers in the story... But with a whole new, more human, look. Very cool!
The story is really interesting and you get to see just how "crazy" the Joker is.
The writing is very good and the artwork is superb.
It has a more realistic tone to it and it's very (very) graphic! :clap
Highly recommended.

Yeah.. agree.. here are my thoughts:
http://dontfeedthemonkeys.com/2012/11/06/death-of-the-family-review/
Totally going the digital path.
I sort of go like this:
1) Pick up individual issues I'm following via comiXology app on the iPad.
2) Any individual issues I love I'll order online (no local stores) to be delivered bagged and boarded.
3) Arcs I want to collect, I'll order a hardcover trade (or absolute) for.
So, might end up with 3 copies of an issue in some circumstances - but I'm very okay with that. :-)

I enjoyed the court of owls waaaay more on the second read. For me, batman is the must read title of the New 52.
And the owls spin off "Talon" has had a very promising start.
Two issues into the Death of the Family arc and I reckon it's on track to become one of the definitive joker stories.
I grabbed "the black mirror" from book depository. Feared I wouldn't like it as its not a Bruce Wayne batman. Read it. Jaw dropped. Loved it. No wonder they gave him the gig in the new 52.
Snyders work is simply fantastic.
I've really enjoyed "American Vampire" too.

Picked up Remender's Cap and Waid's Hulk. Interesting Remender is going with the plot device he used in Uncanny X-Force; an orphaned child of villainous roots. I like it though.
Waid's Hulk seems to be using the tired 'sometimes' alliance Banner and the monster share. Not familiar with Waid's work, but the artist they have for the new plot rocks.
Will pull both again next month.

Heard and read a lot about the American Vampire, but never got around reading it. Will do in near future.
Also thinking of getting The Joker (Azzarello) and The Killing Joke HCs.
Its been quite a while since I read anything, just started a little while ago. Looking at the Blackest Night HCs too. Came across an interesting link about the series. Guess I'll follow what Jose says :)

I have read TKJ many years ago, just that I never had the deluxe HC edition; $13.34 shipped, not bad I guess. Think I'll pass The Joker at the moment. Also looking at Absolute: Dark Victory, have the HC but the pleasure of viewing Sale's art in Absolute version is immense.

Yeah 13 shipped is not bad at all. I think I paid right around that. If I could I would get all my books in the absolute editions. They are just so damn pretty.

Just got back into buying some comics. Read just recently:
Thor: God of Thunder #1 - Love the story setup so far. Amazing art from Ribic. Really think this will be special.
Amazing Spider-Man #698 - WOW. Enough said.
Wolverine Max #1 - eh, it was ok. Hope it really gets better or I'm going to bail. I really need a definitive Wolverine or X-Men comic to read. Might grab All New X-Men and check that out.
Daredevil #1 - (I've had all the issues just haven't had time to read them in the past year) Awesome. A reason why he's consistently been the best Marvel comic in the years since the Kevin Smith reboot. Consistently the best.
Hope to read soon:
Batman Court of the Owls and Death of the Family arcs
Anyone read the latest Deadpool 1 or 2 yet? Thinking about those as well.

All New X-Men #1,2 - Good stuff so far. It's been like 20 years since I read a good X-Men comic, though admittedly I've yet to read the Whedon Astonishing that I've been wanting to. For some reason Marvel just never seems to put the effort into X-Men when these guys along with Spider-Man were undoubtedly their cash cows in the 80s and 90s. Everything's been Avengers, Avengers, Avengers for years now. Glad this is starting out good.

Spidey and X-Men have constently been their best sellers, their cash cows. They've put plenty of effort into them.

Sorry for the late reply but your welcome. :wave also, with the new 52 batman titles, I really enjoyed batman and robin written by Peter tomasi. Some people didn't like it but I think it's been really great. Really made me enjoy Damian Wayne's character. As did the new batman inc from grant Morrison.
For those that have read it, how is the new x men title from marvel now? I don't read a lot of marvel except amazing spider man and Scarlett spider, but I'm a big x men fan. Read Saga #8. Wow. I don't think I could love this book any more. Best thing I've read in a long time.
Captain America #2. I love the year passing twist. For me, this feels like Planet Captain America to Planet Hulk. I have a feeling Remender is going somewhere special with this run. Romita's art is growing on me too.
Indestructible Hulk #2. This book is alright. Worth pulling if you're a fan of the character. I feel like it's pretty vanilla so far, but Waid is most likely building towards the inevitable fall for Banner.
Anyone read Matt Fraction's Hawkeye yet? BKV gave it high praise, and I was a big fan of Fraction's Iron Man run.

Thanks! Yup, I collect Silver/Bronze age CGC books purely for sentimental reasons. These are the comics I grew up on as a kid in the '70s. Now as an adult with some disposable income, it's nice to own the best of the best. Makes for nice displays with my statues.

Captain America #3 - Really shaky on the whole Zola/Steve's chest thing. Would be a shame for this one to start going down hill this early.
Hulk #3 - Fun smashing. Really excited to see the Banner and his new Baby Sitter Bot dynamics. The ending was great.
Saga - Loved it again. This issue showed how strong the supporting cast is getting with The Will and Marko's Ex. I always have a laugh, get disgusted, wide eyes and slack jawed everything issue. Great book.

Flash, Superman, Avengers, Hawkeye, Superior Spiderman, Aquaman
I highly recommend the new Hawkeye! Its been a great read so far! They focus more on a "non super" hero in an everyday life, instead of fighting huge villains. Ive been impressed by Matt Fraction's writing! Other than that, anything by Geoff Johns = amazing! (Green Lantern, Justice League, Aquaman)

Not long now for Death of the Family to finish & then I can finally start reading it...I've done so well on a total blackout on it so I have no idea what's happened & I'm going to blitz it in a weekend as soon as the last issue hits.

Death of the Family has been epic! Scott Snyder is AMAZING! If you havent checked out American Vampire by Scott Snyder, I recommend that! I think the current New 52 Batman series has been one of the best Batman comic runs ever from issue #1. Im sure they will keep Snyder on for a while if they are smart. He going to start writing Superman at #18, I cant wait. Hopefully he can make Superman on par with the new Batman. The New 52 Superman is has been pretty decent too though, I wish I can say the same for Grant Morrison's Superman Action Comics. It started out good and dropped like a rock. I dont understand anything going on right now in it, and I just dropped it off my pull list.
All New X-Men is also one of my favorint new (NOW) series! I think the current story has been SICK! Now is a great time to jump on X-Men without having to know 12,000 issues of its history, as long as you have a general knowledge of X-Men. Uncanny is coming soon too in a re-fresh which should be just as good with Bendis on it.

I've started reading the Song of Ice of Fire series. As for graphic novels, I've got volume 1 of MS Gundam: The Origin on pre-order.

Just finished A Princess of Mars. Great story that would have been much better had his style not been so expository. Same problem Lovecraft and Tolkien had (though Burroughs was a lot more exciting than both of them).

Excited to bite into Stan Lee Cap and Gaiman Eternals. Grabbed Aaron hulk HC because I liked the singles enough, same with the Fraction Iron Man. Sad to see that end. Got rid of my old Watchmen HC and picked up the absolute edition.
Read Batman Earth One. I don't get the love for this comic. Didn't like it.

I absolutely loved everything about batman earth one. I thought it was a great, refreshing take on all the characters. Different enough to make them interesting but still recognizable. Can't wait for volume 2.
What's that hardcover looking thing with damian wayne on the cover? Is that an absolute edition of morrisons batman reborn run?
Yep. Loved the role reversals in that run with Robin being the bad *** that Batman needed to reel in :lol

I actually never read any of morrisons batman and robin. I have downloaded the first few issues when they were on sale but not read them yet. I've become a big fan of damian though through batman inc and tomasi's batman and robin. Is that absolute edition worth picking up?
A couple media sources (ign) sited it as the best thing in comics in its year. If you like absolute editions and you like damian, it's worth it.

Sweet, might try and pick it up. Never got any absolute editions before but always wanted to pick up absolute the long halloween as its one of my fav stories and absolute watchmen. Might start off with batman reborn too then as my first absolute edition.
To further expand my love for Frank...

Most of it was pretty good, had some slow parts but great nonetheless. The Franken Castle part was a pretty fun read & Tony Moore's art was superb as always.

Just read green arrow 17. Never read any green green arrow before but had been hearing lots about the character recently so thought I'd give it a shot and really enjoyed it. Can anyone recommend any good green arrow trades or graphic novels to pick up? Was thinking year one would be a good start.

Just started to re-read all my old Neil Gaimen Sandman graphic novels. I'd almost forgotten how the awesomeness just drips from the pages like magical fairy dust.
Then some light reading "The Darkness - Ultimate Collection" to follow.

Green Arrow, the Longbow Hunters by Mike Grell is awesome.
