Wow that's unexpected. I like most of it, but not the part with the tree. The way it's printed on and the material of that part of the outfit don't look that great.

Art figures do make some good stuff though, so if I was into the 1/6 LOTR line, I'd probably get it.

Nice to see some love for Lotr. I'd get it but the head really sucks. Too bad. Still have a hot toys calibre custom arragorn as strider though and a repainted gandalf.

If I had sauroman frodo legolas and gollum I really think I'd be ok with no other Lotr characters,. Glad to have what I do and that they are not just the stock sideahow figures.

Buttmunch
03-30-2012, 11:37 PM
Totally out of left field based on their past releases. I'm just glad it wasn't another Strider Aragorn. At least this outfit hasn't been done yet. But based on their past releases, I wouldn't expect any more figures from the same film. The Punishers are about as close as we got to a 'line' from them.

This is SO bought!!! Finally another LOTR figure! :panic: And of my favorite character at that! :rock I like the sculpt. Not perfect but still like it.

I may just get the tunic with the tree redone, but the rest looks pretty ok. I'm just excited to finally see a new LOTR figure at 1/6 scale. But like BM said, this may be the only LOTR figure we see from ART unfortunately.

Like most, I would've prefered Sauruman, or an Orc but I will take any new 1/6 LOTR figure that comes! Now i can go to sleep on a happy thought! :)

Try owning a few before making that assumption. Their Stevenson Punisher fits perfectly with HT's Marvel figures. Their Delta and Seal are also HT quality. Save for the "iffy" likeness (no much worse than Wolverine, Indy or Hawkeye), their Jane Punisher is also up there.

the only problems I have with the sculpt is the mouth looks too small and the nose too big. eyebrows look a little sad but that doesn't bother me. Chainmail looks great. After further inspection, I've found some tweaks to the armor I'm going to have to do but that's better than having to make a whole figure from scratch which was on my "to do" list.

Some issues with the costume:
- Missing the Elven knife
- Missing the armor on the boots
- Bicep armor is the wrong design (what they gave him looks like it should be the design from the top of the boot armor)
- The gauntlets should have a smaller 'scallop-thing' to either side of the big one

Bonus points for giving us the Anduril scabbard though, even if he never wore it.

Gipetto0812

Not familiar with this line, have they made a Legolas?

No, but I wouldn't be surprised of he's next possibly dubbed under the name of "The Archer," "the Elf" or something along those lines if this figure sells well.

They made some Shawshank Redemption figures but I think they really got noticed when they made "Saves" who was practically Ray Stevenson's Frank Castle from Punisher War Zone, then followed up with a Tears of the Sun Bruce Willis (don't remember that ones name), the "Delta Force" based off a character from Balck Hawk Down if I remember and finally "The Avenger" who was based off Thomas Jane's Frank Castle from The Punisher.

But back to this figure....

I was reading over at OSW and and someone made a valid point IMO...

What if the likeness issue along with the few inaccuracies in the outfit are due to them not wanting to get into any trouble with licensing? Maybe they are realizing that they have become a bit more popular and don't want to jeoprodize anything by getting sued so they're making it look off on purpose? Just a thought...well a thought from someone over at OSW :lol

No prob. And I agree. If they do do him, I hope it's from the Two Towers so they can give him his Rohan duds with Lothorian Bow, Quiver and Arrows. I know DID made him in that garb and I have it too but by today's standards, it's just not working plus they only gave him 3 poorly made arrows. His quiver was always full so I don't get why DID only gav him 3 and SS only gave him 5 in both 1/6 and the PF'

but all in all, I think the Aragorn likeness is the best we've gotten in 1/6 IMO and if they do Legolas, hopefully it will trump SS attempt, but not sure it could out do Darren's resculpt

ChibiSchmoo
04-05-2012, 07:25 PM
Not to deprive anyone of a Legolas, but if this company does more LotR knock-offs, I'd really like to see them take this in a direction we haven't seen before - specifically, heavily armored characters.

Tops of my list would be a Gondorian soldier, Galadhrim archer, Helm's Deep Uruk Hai, and a Rohan Royal Guard. No likeness issues to drop the ball on there, either.

Star Puffs

This seems a poor choice. Why not do Gimli or Eowyn or Arwen?

We all have an Aragorn already and while this version is definitely tempting, the likeness is off enough to definitely make me pass.

I wouldn't feel deprived if Legolas isn't next as the only LOTR Character I would want out of all would be a 1/6 Gimli with either Saruman or the Witch King coming in second place. i just feel that if they are to do another, I wouldn't be surprised if it was Legolas. Plus, I've continually upped my Legolas that I don't feel the need necessarily for another. I'm getting embossed leather belt and straps as well as metal buckles soonish. But I would like proper Lothorian gear for Legolas. DID's was good but not good enough IMO

I have to disagree with you a bit. Yes, i'd definitely rather have Gimli instead of Aragorn but what makes up for this being Aragorn is it not being Strider. In terms of likeness, SS likeness wasn't any better. I think this one is much closer to Viggo than the SS one plus has better paint. is it 100%? no, but it's still better than the SS 1/6 sculpt and when this is parted out, I'm doing to pick up this sculpt and resculpt it into a Strider look and replace my SS one.

but I am biased somewhat b/c for me, I'm just happy to see another 1/6 LOTR figure come out of nowhere when I had previously been drawing up plans to make my own King Aragorn in which now I don't. It's not Gimli but it's not a rehashed HT Iron Man either so I'm happy

You have strong point. It is nice to see LotR get some 1:6 love. I guess if there were a decent 1:6 Arwen headsculpt, I might get this figure.

While he's getting his eyesight checked, you may want to join him. I have to strongly disagree that this is the worst version of Aragorn. Like some havealready said, is it 100%? No. But horrible? The worst ever? Again, I have to strongly disagree. Of course everyone sees it differently and that's all fair.

On another character, I'd be more picky about the likeness too. But this Aragorn head is easily replaced with a better Mortensen one, provided I can cut the hair off cleanly. Actually, I think he looks a little like Val Kilmer - Madmartigan from Willow custom, anyone?

My eyes are just fine brother, but you might want to re-read my post b/c you obviously missed what I said which was about the 1/6 sculpt, from the first 1/6 LOTR figure SS produced. The PF is the best likeness to Viggo IMO, I don't own it, but I've seen both it and the Maquette in hand and still think the PF is the best. When the thread for the Aragorn Marquette opened up I even said that I wish I could cast that maquette head and put it on my 1/6 b/c it is a good likeness and they're approximately the same scale, but not better than the PF IMO.

And I never said that this Art figures sculpt was the best. I've already said that it wasn't 100%, all I said that it's better than the 1/6. I mean if you want to talk bad sculpts, how about the two ToyBiz 12" Aragorn sculpts that were way worse than this (doll and rotocast figures)? Or are we just pretending those never existed? :huh

I like it.... Not a perfect likeness but decent.... For the price, I assume around 110, it's a steal. Anyone have this up for PO yet?

No where has it up for PO just yet. The usual places that I know that get Art Figures (toy anxiety, monkey depot, Cotswold collectibles, Viking playground) have yet to put it up. I know Cots told me that they're waiting on their distributed to let them know if they're going to have it and when

See here for a painted RPT aragorn by the talented melanarus:

http://www.sideshowcollectors.com/forums/showthread.php?t=103201

I have the head gipetto! It's a little on the small side and doesn't work perfectly with the sideshow clothes / body and other figures in the line (if you are displaying him with legolas etc) Which is a shame as it's a very good likeness imo.

That said it looks good in melanarus' pictures. So I dunno :lol

RPT are reliable! It took an age for the sculpt to get to me I must admit but it arrived.

Looks pretty cool. I don't plan on buying if but I do like it all the same.

Yeah I agree. While this one is pretty low down on my list (I won't be getting this) I hope this encourages ART to make something cool like Saruman or some orcs.

In God's name why?! It looks nicer than any of Sideshow's LOTR figures. Plus... it's another LOTR figure! :panic:

Maglor

the only problems I have with the sculpt is the mouth looks too small and the nose too big. eyebrows look a little sad but that doesn't bother me. Chainmail looks great. After further inspection, I've found some tweaks to the armor I'm going to have to do but that's better than having to make a whole figure from scratch which was on my "to do" list.

Although, the sculpt isn't perfect, you can tell who it's supposed to be. Can't say as much for Sideshow's lopsided attempt and Viggo.

Plus, I'm a fan of the book before I'm a fan of the movies, and this IS King Aragorn.

God, this is so awesome.

I think you need your eyesight testing, my friend!

Unless you mean the PF, which i don't own. The maquette is the best likeness to Viggo i have ever seen. This version is the worst likeness i have ever seen..... for anyone! Just truly terrible.

The 1/6 figure from Sideshow. He's unrecognizable. And the sculpt is lopsided - almost deformed. This is way better IMO.

:huh

:exactly: Comparing 1/6th figures to 1/6 figures, this wins.

they have some excellent service. I've ordered from them quite a few times. the only thing I hate is you don't know how much shipping will be until you go through the whole check out.

For Viking Playground:

Cotswold has him up for $109 so save $10 by buying at Viking Playground. Are they safe? Never ordered from them before

Monkey Depot:

Ordered from them A LOT. excellent service and excellent CS when I had to return something. shipping to me can be pricey (to me anyways) sometimes especially when I'm just buying small pieces, but I guess it makes up for their most of the time cheaper parts vs Toy Anxiety. but you can see shipping before you go through checkout

I do worry that the printing is gonna look like crap in-hand. Also, I hope the article of clothing it's printed on doesn't look too much like a lead dentist's vest. Faramir's "tree sirt" kinda has that problem.

I think it's the giant forehead that bother's me most... still a very impressive figure especially for the price.

I'm kind of interested in getting it; but w/no other figures that would fit with that part of the film and already having 1 Aragorn I'm torn.

I wish I knew if they were planning on releasing more figures; I'd kill for just one baddie

I honestly don't think the forehead is that big. It's more straight than Viggo's which is uneven, but not much higher.

I wanted to order both of mine from them and they wouldn't let me. Said there were 'insufficient supplies' or , 'one left' or whatever. So I ended up buying a second one from a different seller. As it turned out I actually ended up spending more after shipping that I would of buying both at the higher price point with combined shipping. :slap

Anyway, I guess I get to find out if Viking Playground or Monkey Depot ships faster.

Gipetto0812

Seems that Viking Playground is the cheapest. Although, I don't know how shipping figures in here.

Available sellers I found:

http://www.vikingplayground.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=2842

http://www.monkeydepot.com/Boxed_Figure_Art_Figures_The_King_AF_007_p/fa0006.htm

http://www.monstersinmotion.com/cart/tv-movie-item-list-a-e-c-2_200/art-figures-the-king-p-17401

Can anyone recommend any other sellers? I've had good success with Vikings Playground in the past.

Don't forget about Cotwold Collectibles!
http://www.gijoeelite.com/f_itemPart.asp?strPart=GIAF-007

they have some excellent service. I've ordered from them quite a few times. the only thing I hate is you don't know how much shipping will be until you go through the whole check out.

For Viking Playground:

Monkey Depot:

Ordered from them A LOT. excellent service and excellent CS when I had to return something. shipping to me can be pricey (to me anyways) sometimes especially when I'm just buying small pieces, but I guess it makes up for their most of the time cheaper parts vs Toy Anxiety. but you can see shipping before you go through checkout

I'm hoping Toy Anxiety puts this guy up b/c they're shipping is always the lowest I ever pay

Why didn't you mention BBTS then! :cuss

got 2 of them if gis really great all the accessories are good quality, he even comes with his even star also his ring is an actual ring not sculpted, assembling him was fairly easy everything fits, but like the last art figures figure my brother bought his right arm was too tight and snapped during putting him together didnt really bother me i had a spare tt lying around, fixing the body wold have been simple but either way it shouldnt brake,
really aside from sam and frodo my fav 1/6 lotr fig, just love the details in the clothes and accessories

nope no mods didnt even change the neck joint odd that he breaks his evenstar in the scene b4 the one he wears this in he also comes with a belt for every layer also noticed that he comes with the clothes he wears in rivendell when frodo wakes after destroying the ring oh and no dagger which he shuld have still awesome

Great figure, but I think they made a mistake with mine when they packed the accessories in the box -- no ring or evenstar, but I got 3 belts (one for the chainmail skirt, one for the leather surcoat, and one more), which as far as I can tell, he was only supposed to come with two. Oh, well.

Hmm...that sucks that some aren't coming with items. And I jus checked BBTS, Viking Playground, Monkey Depot and Cotswold and none of them have an times list/product description so of they don't come with it, it's not like we can say it was supposed to. I mean the ring is in the pics, but the evenstar isn't.
