Did Sideshow provide any clues or hints at the Comic Con that there will be any new figures for their Fife & Drum, Brotherhood in Arms, or Bayonets & Barbed Wire lines in 2006? How about 2007?

Yeah, looks like we're being left behind for fantasyland. Can't blame them, they're making a boatload of dollars on pop culture and comic charactors.

I know some of the creators of the first 12" figures were (are) re-enactors and history oriented at SideShow. However, the bottom line is the all might $$$$. I guess since they have become a "heavy weight" in the collectables arena, SideShow has become more beholden to Star Wars and such, because that is where the $$$$$ is. I can only hope for an occational nostalgic throw back to their beginings for the historical, live by the sword and such lines?

Someone got a chance at Comic Con to ask Tom at Sideshow about this, and unfortunately his reply is not encouraging:

"Well, got to speak to Tom briefly at Sideshow, and got some rather depressing news. Seems that Star Wars completely took over everything over there, and thus the lack of attention to the military lines. He did say now that they've gotten into a rhythm, that they will have more time to revisit some of their other lines. However, he said the bayonets and barbwire series seems unlikely to have anything new. While not totally dead, I got the impression that it would take a huge push to get it to continue. I asked about WWI movies (suh as Flyboys) and he said that those historical movies don't really push sales too much. So I went away feeling like I'm not going to see anything cool for a very long time. Too bad, because I really think this era is neglected by too many collectors...

I tell you, a Peter Jackson WWI movie would get people interested in the this era real quick..."

that's a real shame that they aren't focusing any attention on this line. :monkey2

I think the only military line we will be seeing soon will be the Military of Star Wars

I am not a military collector. The way I look at it, Sideshow have to focus on Star Wars and forego most other lines. They have a huge licence fee to recuperate before making those much talked about dollars. Strike while the iron is hot before all the Star Wars fans grow up, have families, and move into worrying about more important things in life.

At least there are manufacturers, that concentrate more on military figures, to take up the slack, for now. I'm sure, at some point, Sideshow will revisit their past lines to see what is possible. Not much joy in the short term for you guys.

Does any one know if SideShow will at least release one figure a year for the "Live by the Sword" and "Fife and Drum" lines? This is a real bummer! No one else does WW1 or Civil War, I guess now, since SideShow seems to have stopped makeing those lines, there will be NO ONE making up for those discarded themes:monkey2

battlegeartoys makes some very nice Civil War stuff, if some other manufacturer can be convinced that there's enough of a market so that they will make a profit making Civil War figures then we'll see more. Personally I was disappointed with 90% of the military stuff Sideshow made. For more money than bbi or dragon, Sideshow had less crisp detail on their weapons, and some cases of really poor tailoring. Other times the tailoring was good but I got the redcoat they made and his outfit was absolute crap compared to DiD's figures from that era, and the price was similar.

Not exactly a noob here but had to re-register since my old account was deactivated a while ago.

Anyway for those still interested in the B&B Series 1, found this on the bay. Not a new release but still classic  :
