View Full Version : PF Buffy hair fix?

A while back SS said there would be a tweak to PF Buffy's hair flip. Does this look like it's been done? Anybody at SDCC have a look at the PF Buffy?

they REALLY shoulda used synthetic hair on this PF. if i got it, i'd pry her hair off and scalp some doll head lol.

Going to have to agree with that....the synthetic hair would've worked a lot better.

I'm very disappointed in this compared to the prototype. The hair is so much less detailed, and the cleavage is no longer..."cleaved" properly. It looks like one big "uniboob" with a slight crease down the middle instead of two breasts. These are not good changes...

ew.im glad I did not waste my money now.
Her hair is flat and worse and the boobs, what did they do.
And she looks so sad.Poor buffy

Yep, I would have rathered they not do the changes....That "hair fix" is just wrong, looks like she just got out of a mud bath....and as for the "missing cleavage". ...That was the MAIN SELLING POINT for me!!!:lol
I am going to cancel my order immediately....They ruined it totally.

Its comes into the neck alot still and still doesnt sit naturally. I hoped the 'tweak' would mean a fuller and more natural style, not just making the flips hang down.
Her assets arent as obvious unfortunately, but as a whole I really like the piece.
Still glad I have my excl on order. She and spike will look amazing in a well lit display

For me, the hair is not the main problem, it is the "uniboob" as someone called it , there's not a better word to describe it so I'll keep using it :lol :lol :lol I might consider cancelling my pre-order but I got it from redplanettoys and they do not do refunds...so.... anyway I would probably end up getting her. The face sculpt which is usually what concerns methe most on final products remains untouched in its perfection :o

I did flexpay and the first payment has been made, now
after seeing the hair change I don't think she looks very
good. Flat and unattractive hair. Not sure how I can
cancel her now one payment has been made. Willing
to cover the fee involved but I don't want Buffy now
they have ruined her.

Don't jump the gun just yet. Have they updated the pics on the site? It could all be a trick of the light, or even the proto, till the production version ships out. I'd wait for all the Con mayhem to settle down. Answers may be yet to follow.

I am waiting to see better pics of her from the con.
There are a few here on the forum but they are very
clear.
I just hope they haven't ruined her. I was really looking
forward to Buffy PF. If I still don't like her after the con
I will contact customer service to see what can be done.

I found somemore pictures of the new look for PF Buffy plus
some other shots of Buffy figures.
I can honestly say I don't like the changes.
Her dress is shiny, her hair looks well, horrible.
The original flip was actually better than this.
I am heartbroken. I have been waiting anxiously
for Buffy Pf and now this.

You could take it up with Sideshow. Im sure they read these threads and would know were not happy. I just hope they can hear us and try again.
This is a highly anticipated piece for so many, so I hope they could try one more time to get her perfect. I think also its like the hair is one big flat whoosh, instead of intricately detailed hairs like Andy B does so well.
Although these changes havent been what we've all hoped, I can still honestly say that I still like it and it will be mine regardless. Just that pesky hair and uni boob prob.
PLus, in so many pics, it looks as though she has REAL eyelashes!

That pic from RS is just horrible. The hair just looks like a blob with no detail at all. Couldn't even get past the hair to the uniboob until you guys mentioned it. I really hope this is a horrible joke. Surely the lighting, camera, etc couldn't make Buffy look this bad :monkey2

It does seem to be a very low-resolution picture. That spot on the hair where the flip was looks as though someone used the Photoshop blur tool.

It's surprising most of you are cancelling your order because of the hair. Frankly, I don't think it's that big a deal, as someone pointed out, maybe we should wait to see the actual promo pictures or the figure itself to see if it's that bad, it might actually look good. All of you who pre-ordered her before the "hair fix", would you have got it anyway if they had kept the hair just as it was? Just curious.

I didn't order the Buffy - can't afford the PF line. But, I am also a bit surprised by all those saying they are now going to cancel it. I'd at least wait for word from Sideshow that this is the final product before doing that. And I've never returned anything to Sideshow so I don't know if it's a hassle or not but wouldn't it be better to get the figure in person and see if you like it then return it if you don't?

I'm no so upset by the hair, but I still am ticked at the overall half-*** job Sideshow did with this figure. Now I'm not saying it looks bad, but for $250 the value just isn't there when you put Buffy side by side with Hellboy, Punisher, John Wayne, the KISS figures and now Spike, who gets the nice outfit AND two heads. What is it with Sideshow's lack of outfit/accessories when it comes to some of their female PF figures?
Seven of Nine was also lacking any accessory, even Kirk and Spock got a phaser and tricorder respectively.
And I do remember someone from Sideshow saying that the body for Buffy cost more so that's where some of the value went. Well I just don't believe that. Are you telling me that the Punisher body, with the sculpted muscular arms and different pose didn't cost as much to make as Buffy? Punisher comes with at least 3 weapons, and other gear. John Wayne gets a full outfit and a rifle.
Buffy? she gets a simple black dress and a molded lump of polystone "book"
If plans are to release another Buffy PF figure with the axe from the final episodes in an action pose then please tell me now, I'd rather cancel this one and wait a year or two.

Personally I'm not cancelling my preorder, because I love all things Buffy. For a Whedon fanatic like me who scrapes together his last $400 for screen-used prop Gavrok spider demons and a few weeks later his last $300 for Joss' handwritten draft of a Firefly episode, $250 for a ginormous Buffy figure is...okay, as long as a better buy doesn't come along.
But, I think the "uniboob" is very unsightly and anatomically weird--SS should put the cleavage back the way it was on the earlier prototype; they may have looked too big (because Buff was wearing a push-up bra in S1 promos), but at least they looked like breasts instead of one big uniboob. And the hair is awful--people weren't complaining early on that the hair flipped up; they complained that it flipped up slightly too far and didn't sit naturally on the shoulders. Now the hair is flat and lifeless and looks glued to her shoulder. SS took both adjustments too far, to extremes, and lessened the figure's appeal.
Were I not a fanatic, yes, I'd cosider cancelling my preorder. SS should be careful to avoid taking minor criticisms too far. Tweak slightly, don't carpet bomb every problem area.

Her boobs look better imo. They were too squished up on the promo figure. Definitely keeping this one although I do pray they fix her hair, it seriously sucks. The original kink was a lot better than this attempt.
I trust SS will do something about it... there's been too much negative feedback for them to ignore. I HOPE!

GUYS, IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH BUFFY'S HAIR OR BOOBS, WRITE SIDESHOW AND LET THEM KNOW.
I wrote them yesterday. If enough people write them, maybe Sideshow will push the release date back and re-work the figure. Sideshow has done that with other figures (ie Darth Vader).

The updated breasts are fine. They're less square than the original prototype. The hair need a lot of work. It doesn't look very good in that picture. Anyone have any better or clearer pictures? I have a feeling it may have been a quick update just for the CON and the final version isn't complete yet. That being said, I still can't get over how amazing the likeness is. Just awesome!

The size or shape isn't an issue--the shallow cleavage in between is. It looks like they aren't as seperate as they should be; hence, "uniboob." In most women, SMG included, cleavage goes down to within an inch of the middle of the ribcage. In the figure, it looks too shallow. It could be a result of bad angles and lighting in the pictures, but probably not.

I received a reply from Sideshow Customer Service. It said, "I'd be happy to forward your comments to our Product Development Team." SO WRITE SIDESHOW WITH WHATEVER CONCERNS YOU HAVE. IT COULD MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

Potentially good news!!!
I just received a reply from SS customer support and their Production Team have been advised that people are not happy with her hair. This has to mean they will do something about it, they hold us collectors in too higher regard to ignore it :D

Sideshow are too good to us. Although they made a bad judgement on the 'fix up' they changing it yet again for us. I know some people will think "they should have got it right to begin with" but Im so glad sideshow has the care to go back and keep perfecting problems for the collectors.
I really like this pic from the con. You can see more detail in the hair and the dress fits wonderfully and has no shine.

Easy to do if you live in the US...But, sending something back from Australia?? Yeah, SS would love that..:D Plus, I have too much on order anyway with SS, and, seeing what they "might" end up doing with Buffy, made me do the cancel thing....But, each to their own...If you keep your order for now...good for you, and I hope SS change it for ya.

This is kinda different because the item was damaged, but I'll share anyway.
I received the Abe maquette with cracks around his legs, contacted SS with photos of the damage, (it really was minor damage, I'm certain their production team could have repaired him no worries), anyway after reviewing the damage and asking what my desired outcome would be, a replacement please, their instruction for me was to hit the hell out him with something really heavy, so the piece was completely unrecognisable and send them a photo of the "Carnage" :acme
Only then would they send me the replacement maquette!!
Man! Do you think I could do it?! Has anyone seen this maquette up close? It's stunning!
I did try, Abe's maquette took quite a few excursions around the house, moving from living room to laundry, he was even witness to quite a few discussions about the perfect execution weapon during his journey to the patio... hell, I even instructed my partner to do it for me while I was out of the house, but turns out he couldn’t bring himself to do it either!!
Sooo... ahem, I am now the proud owner of one slightly damaged Abe  (got to keep him for half price) & one absolutely Perfect Abe. :D
In a nutshell, I guess the cost of returns from Australia may be a bit much for them! I mean, that's a lot of money's worth to repeatedly hit with something heavy don't ya think?!
The price tag is why I wouldn't accept even a minor damaged maquette incase anyone was wondering, and rest assured Firefly Flanatic, there was no hassle at all with the return process. SS's response was very prompt and friendly all the way!

Sideshow runs off extra figures during the production process in case of problems. It's not uncommon for Sideshow to ask a customer to destroy a piece.
There's a pretty cool thread on statueforum.com that shows a Predator statue (cost a grand) getting destroyed. The person had fun with it by painting green alien blood all over the severed limbs. Then he smashed it to dust.

All international customers are given the choice of destroying or getting it half-off (for polystone product). It isn't cost effective to return to to them.

As Mike stated I am also from Turkey and I pay like 50 % of the product price and sometimes even 100 % (for 12" figures)
So far I never had a problem and hopefully will not have in the future.
Dave what I do not understand is: what is getting half of it??
Do SS return half of the price to you ?

I made a decision to cancel my PF Buffy. Partially because of the amount of money this will cost plus shipping and duty and the majorly the fact that I am uncertain they can fix the hair issues. Now someone on the wait list will get her and I hope they will enjoy her.

This statue is made to be displayed with Buffy turned slightly to the right. If you look at the picture that the statue is based on, Buffy is turned slightly to the right. It's also just common sense based on the position of her eyes and the hand holding the stake.
I was happy with the prototype pictured below. The breasts were a tad big, but they looked GOOD regardless. The reality is that SMG wore a push-up bra during the first season, so her breasts did appear to be bigger in the first season when compared to later seasons. The hair on the right side of the prototype was a tad curly, but it really didn't bother me. I thought it was fine the way it was.
I hate not knowing what the final product will look like. And I really hate the idea that it may not look as good as the prototype. This is an instance where complaining may have actually back-fired. As others have mentioned, Sideshow over-corrected the faults of the statue, which weren't that bad to begin with. Why didn't Sideshow get some more feedback after modifying the figure? Dammit.

The left side of her hair is fine, it's just the right side that bothers me. It's too thin straight or kinked.
I am not going to cancel my excl. order for her until I see the finished product, then again, I'll probably still keep her since doll wigs are always an option, but I doubt she'll be that bad, I have complete faith that SS will fix the problem :D

that might simply be smart on the part of the dealer, because Sideshow is saying Sept and if it's late in the month the dealer won't be getting them/shipping them til early October. If he said September, then all month long he might be getting emails asking "where's my Buffy?" even if it hadn't shipped from SST yet.

until we get the typical 15-20 day out type email just think "sometime" in September, and when you're thinking "sometime" don't think Sept 1. It's always better to think Sept 30th, then, if you get it earlier than that, be happy!

Isn't that shot of the first prototype? I think even though the angle doesn't show the beauty of the piece it surely shows how incredible the sculpt is, the detail and the likeness (the nose from that perspective is dead on). Seriously, if the face in the final product is like that, I don't mind at all about the hair (though I'd like it to be fixed of course).

Its because theres no differentiated line between either asset making it look like one. It wasnt a big mishap it just made it look more fake.
The skin tone of PF Buffy at the SDCC this year was far pinker and one tone too.

when I said underneath I meant underneath the clothes. I'd guess she doesn't have a sculpted belly button but that doesn't matter to me because she'll look the same with or without it. Same with her chest. As long as it looks right with the dress on, I don't mind how it's sculpted underneath the dress. I suppose some people planned on removing the dress, maybe that's why they want it as anatomically correct as possible! :rotfl :monkey5
Also, don't feel weird ordering Buffy...as long as no one I know finds out!!! :D

LOL!!! I'm already in the planning stages for a display cabinet on tracks (or rotating shelf) in which to hide the collectables that people wouldn't understand. Plus that gives me more display space! :D

The "uniboob" problem isn't about what's underneath the dress. There is cleavage--or rather, not-fully-cleaved-cleavage--well above the bustline of the dress. But the actual cleft is unnaturally shallow, making her breasts look like a big "uniboob" with a slight crease down the middle instead of like two breasts.
The earlier prototype had more realistically distinct cleavage, either because the sculpting or shading was better. So, be sure to look at the later revised figure, otherwise you won't see the uniboob problem.

Was lucky enough to have Oluf over this past weekend signing some PF's and he spoke to me for a minute or two about the Buffy PF which I also happen to have on order.
He said the hair looks great and he was happy with the outcome, though he did admit they did have discussions about using "real" hair and he has a few Buffy heads with hair as opposed to sculpted hair in his studio.

I can virtually guarantee you that the paint job won't be anywhere near that good. That's a prototype painted by an artist on his/her own time, not a head masked and sprayed on an assembly line.
I'll do handsprings if the paint looks like that, but I just don't think that's possible. I think we've seen a clear example of this and it's the prototype Aragorn and prototype Obi Wan 12" figures we saw this summer at Comic Con vs. the production versions we've seen in recent weeks.

I could be wrong, but this is what I've heard will occur...Depending on the extent of the damage, Sideshow will either send you a replacement part or a whole new statue. If Sideshow decides to send you a new statue, you will be asked to smash your damaged statue into little pieces, take a picture of it, and then send Sideshow the pic.

It's a shame isn't it BD...That SS can charge you, and post you out something, that you can't even see proper production photos of...Granted, that the "prototype" pictures look pretty good, and the PF are usually spot on to those....But, as we all know, this particular piece has had some tinkering (supposedly..) done to it...and it would be nice of SS to post THOSE pics, before sending the actual statue out to anyone....

Okay, you guys, I'm gonna tell you a little story about the Buffy PF production sample, and you can choose to believe it or not - but I SWEAR it's true, and we didn't forget about the Buffy fans!!
So, back 3 or 4 weeks ago when we found out exactly when the Buffy would be coming in, I went in search of the final, final production sample to schedule it in the queu for photography. I found out it had been sent back overseas to the production facility with one minor fix to perfect it for the production run. They said that it would be back 'soon' - so I held out hope that we would still be able to get pics in time... but I just found out (literally... JUST found out today) that the sample is being shipping back the main shipment of figures to our warehouse.
Not a problem, I thought... there's usually a backup....
Now, it just so happens that our production manager, Scott Klauder, has little bit of a history of being clumsy (shhh, don't tell anyone!), and guess what, the only other sample we had on hand (which wasn't even the final, final... it was the one that we showed at Con) got broken quite a while ago! (seriously, this is not just a lame excuse)... direct from Scott Klauder: "Tell them I have failed them, and I'm sorry." :monkey2
Soooooo, long story short, no production samples have been in the building for a long time - only the protoype, which you've already seen! But I PROMISE that I tried my hardest to to update pics before the shipment, just sometimes the world works against me - AND please remember that you can ALWAYS return your item for a full refund within 30 days after it's delivered if you don't like it :duff

It seems that they really did blow it so close to shipping. It's just those pics we need. Im even considering not ordering it elsewhere yet so I can be sure. I should be able to find somewhere that has it on order at a later date. Maybe PF Lurtz is calling my name:monkey3

I cancelled, too. I don't want to lose anywhere from $20 to $40 on shipping. I'll wait for pics of the final product to be posted before deciding whether I want this statue in my collection. I will probably end up buying the statue, but I can wait for pics.
I obviously can't speak for Sideshow, but I would consider the lack of production sample pics prior to shipment to be "their error," so I would expect them to be reasonable in dealing with anyone who finds the final product unsatisfactory.
Still, I can't imagine finding this piece unsatisfactory, so I don't anticipate needing to return mine. :D

I couldn't agree more.....even more so when you are on the other side of the planet like me...sending something you are not happy with back, becomes a little bit expensive..You need to be SURE of what you are getting..
Surely, somehow, somewhere, somebody could have taken photos of this in production??...Why can't they arrange "photo shoots" in China before these get on boats?
It's one thing to trust SS that they will deliver a great piece..but, sometimes it would be nice/professional of them to make sure that it's not left up to trust...:o :o

I don't know for sure how much shipping will be to the UK, but I bet around $60. They have her for $224 (119 pounds).

Long time lurker, first time poster...uh, long time waiter for the PF Buffy as well. I was charged my final payment for Buffy back on the 16th according to my bank statement. Got my notice too but one caveat to all. My notice says shipping on the 24th and arriving on the 26th. In the past, with the (two) Fed Ex shipments from Sideshow (I usually get them UPS) Fed Ex is just notified on the shipment on the 24th (in this case) and really won't start handling it til tomorrow. The jist of this is, don't be surprised if your package gets pushed back a day. It's happened both times I got something sent via Fed Ex from Sideshow. Both times the online link still said it'd be delivered on the date I was originally quoted until the day of delivery, then it was reset to the next day. Not saying it'll happen to you, but just don't get too concerned because it might.
Either way I'll have Buffy by the weekend!!

I have the same problem. I won't be able to see my Buffy until late November because I live in Sevilla (one of Spain's most beautiful cities, you should visit) and the big B is being sent to my other address. It's sure a big box and I can't take it with me on my next trip. I have to sacrifice seeing her for practical reasons, and that's killing me. I need to see her, touch her...now! That has happened to me in the past as well. But not this time! I got my shipping notice last night, and when I checked the FedEx site this morning for an update, it showed that the package was picked up at 8:44 last night, and has already departed Los Angeles. She's on track to arrive here on Friday.
Either way I'll have Buffy by the weekend!!
And that's probably the best part. Since FedEx delivers on Saturday, even if they miss by a day you won't have to wait the whole weekend with no delivery.

looks good to me, wasn't too worried Oluf said it looked great.
Doesn't look to "downsized" to me, I understand the sculpture is based on the first season of Buffy and she definitely had more meat on her bones than the later seasons and my wife always points out to me that Sarah wore many less push-up bra's during the later seasons... not like I noticed or anything :D

Just opened mine 10 minutes ago, AWESOME!!!!
As someone else mentioned both of her heels have holes to fit over the two small posts on the base and mine also seems like I might break the leg/boot if I try to put both over the pegs so just one is on the peg and one foot in front of the other, she still seems stable. I might try a little harder later on but not enough to break anything. The eyelashes are a nice touch, since the time she was first posted I thought the "sad" expression was nice, reflected how often she didn't want to be the slayer/took it as a burden rather than a gift. It sets up the possibility of a tough ready-for-a-fight Buffy PF next year! :D
The only things I'd change would have been to make the base smaller, it's huge and heavy, and spend some of the $ that it cost to give us a functional 1/4th scale Vampyr book with real pages etc instead of the lump of polystone book she comes with (or maybe a real black thong instead of a painted on one...er, did I just admit something???!!!??? :rotfl . While more recent PFs like Spike and Captain America exclusives give you very cool ways to switch your character's head and/or other items Buffy's PF is one you can skip and just get the regular version and you won't be missing out. But no matter the version, definitely try to get a Buffy PF, it's a fantastic piece!
Next get that Veronica Mars license so I can have a PF of Kristen Bell!!! :chew

http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/8641/dsc00819jo0.th.jpg (http://img144.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00819jo0.jpg)
The sad part is, the statue I got had a crack in one of the fingers. It's really strange. The box I got was sealed, the styro seal, so I guess I was the first to open the box. But when I open it, I saw the glued fingers. I already filed a complaint in the sideshow site and waiting for the reply. I guess the guys in china got sloppy! I assume somebody over there got careless and broke the finger, and then glued it back and seal the box. Ever the SC sticker and the tape were undamage when I open it!
the statue should never have left the factory in the first place. It was my first sideshow statue, and sadly probably my last.
Sorry to hear that Erik, just contact their customer service, they very good at taking care of issues like that.
Enjoy!

Love the statue, but does the makeup look caked-on a bit too much? I dunno some shots look fantastic and some look a lil off.
I am very happy with my Buffy, it almost makes me want to order Spike and any other PF's that go along with her...but gotta make fiscal cuts somewhere along the line so not sure if I am going to order anymore from the show.
Checking over the statue the only issue I have is when the base was packed a little bit of the bottom edge was turned up and stuck on the packing material but its not noticable at all unless I pick it up, otherwise its perfect.
I think the paint application was spot on, at least on mine, can't really comment on anyone else's since I can't compare them in person.
If I didn't already collect Univeral Monster PF's, Starwars PF's. Gentle Giant Starwars, Lord of the Rings PF's and Polystone, along with assorted DC, Marvel and Moore statues and busts, I'd be all over this line. I think the quality of this Buffy only strengthens the line, now if they do a PF of Cordy I'd be hard pressed to say no

also, why is the pose reversed from the original photo-shoot?

In the season one DVD set, it shows the same picture, but it is the reflection of that card. The version in the DVD set is the one Sideshow used. Gues it can go either way.

thanks guys! My biggest problem is...I live in the Philippines, so this is a big problem for me.
I can have it return, but I might spend a lot on shipping. I still love this figure, and since this is a sold-out item, I might never get a replacement! so I decided to just keep this figure, it's a good thing the shop gave me a discount also for the broken finger. Technically it's not their fault. Oh well, I'm happy with the figure regardless. I just wish it was perfect....
She dwarfs dsts buffy lol
Sorry to here about Buffys finger,I think sideshow will replace it for you.
Hope this doesnt put you off buying more sideshow stuff as there products are excellent just look at buffys face it is amazing.

Gotcha SSC, I wonder which one is accurate? I mean when you reverse a photo or image of a person they will look different. Eyes are never symmetrical etc....
Could we have a reversed Buffy?!?!?

There were quite a few pics of buffy holding the stake in both hands. So the figure is right and only one persons on this board seems to have the lazy eye,the rest seem nicer.
Every time I look at her I get more excited for her:D
I carnt belive it though, she way better than the prototype.
