I did not know what to name this thread. :lol And I know this is a pretty stupid question but...

Any tips on painting wood grain? Any specific color suggestions? Trying to get this color/effect from a sculpy weapon....

Thanks in advance.

l am not bad at painting wood grain, have done it on 1/6 WW2 rifles.

l used a couple different oil paint colours (oil paint takes about a week to dry). l used Raw Sienna and the white primer for a light wood grain colour.

First l mask as much of the metal type parts with tape, then paint all the wood areas with white primer. After that is dry take your colour (if you want darker grain or lighter grain select that type of paint) and put a little bit on the brush and ONLY brush horizontal, that will leave nice wood grain. Once dry do another coat, the white primer under will show threw and give it a nice wood grain overal look.

If you want darker then use a lighter piant coat first, then apply darker or vice versa, you will have to play around with it, it's very simple.

Use staining sticks. It comes in like a marker with a tip that fills up with the stain when u push it in. There's tons of colors.get them at Home Depot / Lowes / Michaels

This is for.wood so.if your custom weapon is wood.it will work

Sweet, didn't think about a white primer. Awesome tips dude! It's much appreciated.

No it's sculpy. :( Thanks though bro.

Vallejo has some nice wood & woodgrain colors! With a humbrol enamel base and oil paint you achieve the best finish, but practise first and take in mind that it has a LONG drying time. The results with vallejo looks very nice too!
