The Oscars will be broadcast on Feb. 26th

As today I just posted a thread about "The Artist", even before knowing the nominations, I'll take the Artist.
And if not, hope Hugo wins a bunch too.

Lots of snubs though.

Very disappointed with all the categories this year. All very lackluster except visual effects.

I'll pull for Hugo in everything it's nominated for.

I was shocked about Jonah Hill and Melissa McCarthy's nominations. I've heard that Hill was good in Moneyball but something about it being Jonah Hill made me look twice.

Bridesmaids for best original screenplay and supporting actress? Damn. I loved that movie but ............ really?

What did Melissa McCarthy do to suddenly get all of this attention. Bridesmaids was great but I don't think it would have been different had she not been in it.

And I've never even heard of about 80% of those movies let alone seen them.

Don't get me wrong I think she's hilarious and owned that role but an Oscar?

Oh and Clooney + Politics = win imo.

I REALLY want Oldman to win for Best Actor. Couldn't believe when I read that this was his first nomination. He's such a great actor....though I wonder if this will be Clooney's year. I hope not. Not that I don't like him...but I like Oldman more.

Damn. I've only seen two of the Best Picture nominees, the Help and Moneyball... Lowest total I can ever recall.

Kinda weird not seeing a Pixar film in best Animated feature... Guess that's what happens when they go for many grabs like Cars 2. Hell, my son is three and he doesn't even like it.

I think it'll either be Pitt or Clooney this year and it'll be "make-ups" for previous snubs.

Well if it's make ups for previous snubs - then Oldman should DEFINITELY win! :lol He's been snubbed more than either of them combined.

I agree that Oldman is the better actor than them both, but being his first nomination, the academy usually doesn't work in treating snubs like that. They usually give it to an actor who "should" have won for a nominated role before as a make up. Both Pitt and Clooney hit that mark and I could see them getting it without much issue.

Translation: "The Oscars are a farce."

Yep, I was expecting to see Take Shelter get some noms, at least as Best Actor, and Drive should've have Supporting Role.
Also, I was expecting Senna to be nominated as a Documentary...

Oh and Clooney + Politics = win imo.

Yeah it's a safe bet...

Ghostbusters re-release got snubbed! ____ you, Oscars!
:lecture:lecture:lecture

:lol

Cars 2 sucked balls...
I really think Rango deserves it...
but most likely will go to Kung fu Panda 2

I was surprised The Adventures of Tin Tin didn't get a nomination.

Ditto... just for the Score though...

McCarthy owned Bridesmaids - she was the best part of the movie.

I'm shocked that Incredibly Close is on there - while rotten tomatoes isn't a good barometer for me to decide if I'll like something, it ought to be a reasonable barometer for a film to make it on here for Best Picture. The rest of the field had numbers of at least 85%, several mid-90's. Incredibly Close? 48%. Who the Hell nominated it?

And yea, this year is a mighty weak field all around. I'd go Rango over KFP2 for animated film, and I suspect the critics will too.

Kinda disappointed HP got snubbed.... again.

Rickman at least deserved a nod.
