thanks for the pics, lejuan.
the armour paint app looks more or less the same. not that there's anything wrong with that, since this thing was close to perfection to begin with.
the headsculpt however, is excellent! not as sweaty-looking as i'd have preferred, but lightyears better than the first tony stark "likeness".
and nice touch with the flame and the cave base.
consider this pre-ordered, no question about it. funny how things work out--- i had the v1 but it was stolen. out of all the collectibles i lost last year, this was the one i truly missed. and now i've got a 2nd chance to own it again (without having to pay a king's ransom on ebay)! :yess:

Where's Joker 2.0?
Probably went back to the drawing board for him, this figure is pretty much a repaint of the original with a new sculpt, I'd imagine the Joker 2.0 will be a completely redesigned figure.

The headsculpt, flame accessory, and some kind of working action with the missile launcher are new. Otherwise he looks pretty much the same to me as the one that I have. However, I'm not as discerning to minor differences in the armor paint as other collectors might be, so that looks the same to me.

I think when they say "working missile launcher" they just mean the flap opens to reveal it, I think that's how they also described it in the specs for the original Mark 1.
..and like I said already there should be a flame for each arm to recreate the "My turn" scene, just giving us the one kind of sucks!

Oh, well that's one more thing that isn't new then.
I think I like this release. It's similar enough to the original that those that have it don't have to buy one for an upgrade and it also allows those that missed out the opportunity to get the figure they missed out on.

Coolbeans. Thanks for the info. Will have to think long and hard about this one. Maybe just PO from SS or BBTS so i dont have to worry about a cancelation fee. Taking a quick look at the old mark I in Michael Crawford's review and the sculpt is a real improvement. Also noticed in his "where to buy" and showed that SS had him for $170. Don't think we'll get that lucky but I hope it's not too expensive. Maybe $200?? Or is that just wishful thinking?

I think $200-$215 will be about right. Black Spidey and Red Skull just listed for $200. Spidey is a pretty simple figure with minimal accessories, but comes with an extra Peter Parker head and a huge Sandman display base. Red Skull has limited accessories but very detailed outfit pieces and two heads. With the exception of the flame, the Tony Stark head sculpt, and the somewhat fancy base, this is a straight up repaint/re-release. There really isn't anything to justify a huge mark-up beyond the recent price hike HT has just had for their basic MMS figures...

New sculpt's definitely better than MkI 1.0 but MkIV beats it accuracy wise, no doubt
New sculpt needs to look more famished and dirtier. The iris is again too small like previous RDJ's :panic:

????
$250 is DX pricing territory (at least for now) and there is NO WAY this comes close to being a DX, in large part because it doesn't have PERS - which seems to be the major defining characteristic of all DX releases, whether the figure benefits from the PERS or not. My prediction is $200, give or take 10 bucks. You can probably get this cheaper someplace like Alter Ego or Toy Anxiety, but if you want the exclusive little hologram thingie, you'll have to go through SSC, pay full price and no free shipping. :monkey2:monkey2

It would make no logical sense for this to be the same price as the original. It's been over 3 years. You'd have to expect a price increase.

Dont really see any difference with the v1 to be honest, except for the Stark sculpt (which will stay hidden most of the time). Was expecting a removable armor this time around fro the 2.0.

With the helmet on...you just can't tell the obvious difference...
The prices this year compared to last are all quite a bit higher. You can't say that $250 is "DX pricing" anymore, nor can you say that $150 is "standard" pricing for a regular MMS.
That said, I'm guessing we'll find out shortly, perhaps even tomorrow, if SSC puts up the preorders.

Seems like sound business sense to me... re-release a figure that the secondary market has shown to be a winner with fans, snaffle up all the easy money and maybe use that money towards more R & D and/or riskier or more niche licenses. This re-release is driving the hobby forward. Or it could just be going straight into Howard's new Ferrari. Which is fine too, Howard's a swell guy.

Very nice! Great head sculpt and I love the flame accessory. Not sure if I will get it though. In the entire time I collect i've decided I only need 1 Iron Man figure. Obviously the red and gold 'classic' look is a suitable choice but both this and MK 2 unleashed version have caught my eye

I'm with you, It really is just smart business. I understand why people are upset with hot toys going all re-issue crazy. I like many others have had many of my hot toy figures devalue to a price lower than I payed. I think It's silly though to get mad at hot toys as a company for it though. We the consumers are the reason for this. We created an unprecedented event in the collector community were collectibles were sky rocketing one after another in value and in a short period of time. Hot toys has grown by leaps and bounds over the last few years, and it would be stupid not to revisit these previous figures especially when there is a guaranteed market who has demonstrated that they are willing to pay well above the original price set for the older figures. I am definatley ready for them to start giving other licenses the same attention they do to iron man and predator, and I am all most certain that day will come sooner than we think.

I have the mark iii, mark iv, and the mark vi. I would call it a tough split decision between the mark vi and iv, but I would say go with the mark iv. The mark iii does have it's charms aesthetically over the new marks, but the mark iv and vi are just to much of an improvement over it in my opinion. So if you want my opinion I'de say go with the mark iv.

Very nice! Great head sculpt and I love the flame accessory. Not sure if I will get it though. In the entire time I collect i've decided I only need 1 Iron Man figure. Obviously the red and gold 'classic' look is a suitable choice but both this and MK 2 unleashed version have caught my eye
Any outside opinions on what Iron Man figure I should get as my one and only?
I've got every Iron Man figure and while I do love my Mark I and II, my favorite one is the Mark IV. I love the build quality on it. And its got a great RDJ head sculpt for kitbashing a Tony Stark figure. So, thats definitely the one I'd recommend getting.

When I had this question, I asked a friend of mine who has all the HT IM figs and he recommended the MK4. But with Avengers so close, I'm just waiting to see what that version comes out like for a gold and red IM

Howard's more incline to invest in Properties... which is a sounder investment as well..

The biggest improvement is the Tony Stark sculpt but other than that you really can’t tell a big difference. Which is a good thing because some people shelled out some serious cash for the V1.
Beyond the HS, the differences seem very subtle.
In any case, I'm just grateful to have a second chance at this without the crazy insane eBay prices.

01-13-2012, 01:51 AM
I think the general consensus among fans is that this is their chance to own the Mark I without paying sky high prices.
I'm not sure that many will care about the differences
My only concern is the price, which is silly considering the eBay prices, but Hot Toys know that they have folk over a barrel so they could put a hefty tag on this and still see plenty of sales
I suppose it is a rather complicated figure, as said in different threads, the most expensive part of a Hot Toys figure seems to b the head, at least on the aftermarket, but the Iron Man figures I would say are an exception to that.
We'll see soon

Hate to say it guys, as I've been looking forward to this, but I think this is an alternate universe Mk 1, where Tony makes a small design error and ends up dying during his escape attempt after being gut shot multiple times with AK47 rounds...
Pay attention to the front armor plate covering the stomach area. On the screen original and HT 1.0, this plate comes right down to the waist armor. All the shots here though show a huge gap.
It looks to me like HT maybe did make the 2.0 a bit taller by stretching the torso somewhat without retooling the armor, leaving a pretty vulnerable and unsightly looking 1/2"-3/4" gap between the plates :(

No. Look at the bottom photo in that set and also compare the distance between the plate that loops under the arm and the belt line between the 1.0 and 2.0, this side plate is nearly inside the belt armor on the 1.0, way above it on the 2.0
This wouldn't be affected by a "lean back". There *is* more space on the 2.0...

Bandito thanks for the v1 vs v2 comparison shots. :clap
The difference between the two are very subtle. The entire core section of v2 contains more gaps in the armor. Perhaps this was intentional allowing the figure a wider range of poses? With such subtle changes and having v1, I feel no need for v2. Money saved......

Yeah i actually applaud HT for not going too far and making a figure too different that original owners would feel compelled to update.
I was expecting this and a Tony TT from the hostage cave scene as well, but this is a great update but not too much.

Options.
1- paint a 3 3/4 figure green and all it a day.
2- make a quick mold, and cast the 3 3/4 figure in clear green.
Now that I think about it. I'll be casting the mark 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 an maybe even the hulk buster 3 3/4 in clear green. No articulation. Just a quick cast. If I can get enough interest I'll make a bunch for people on here.

Seeing Bandito's comparion pics, this stood out like a sore thumb. Better posability or not - this HAS to be corrected. That is not a suit of armor that anyone would have survived exiting a cave being shot at with AK's by any means. Good looking rerelease, but needs work to make it great.

I would have never gotten this @ $400-$500. But now, as long as its under $300, its bought.
I think its interesting how so many owners of V1 are not happy about this being released and of course those who do not have it, are thrilled.
One complaint from owners of V1 is that their will be woth less than what they paid for it in the secondary market. I have 2 things to say about that.
1 - Hot Toys didn't price this or any other out of production HT as high as they are in the secondary market. That 100% OUR fault for being willing to pay those prices.
2. I don't see anyone who owns a HT they paid $150 for ( silly thing, Dark Knight, etc ) complaining about their figures now being worth 2-4 times what they paid for it.
If you're going to be pissed and criticize for values going down because of a HT re-release, then give them props for making your $150 purchase worth $500.
NOW GIVE ME A PO! :clap

I'm sure the gap everyone is concerned about will fixed in final production. One would hope so. It actually looks like the waist armor might of slid down a bit as there is no gap between the top edge of the thigh armor and it.

Guess, usually, people who complain are the ones who have bought the Mark 1 (or any other figure) at an inflated price. And this cribbing makes sense; I mean you pay through your nose for something and the next thing you get to know is that a 'better' figure is being released. Would piss me off too, but only for some time. That's the fun of being a collector, you win some, lose some.

From what I can see with the side by side comparisons, the armor is "smaller" meaning in different poses you see more of the TrueType underneath whereas the original looked bulkier. I'm trying to figure out whether or not the little holographic version is worth dropping free shipping from SSC.
All of these little add-ons to the Mech Test Tony, makes me really regret passing on that figure.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but how is this figure only 12 inches? Wasn't the Mark 1 in Iron Man huge compared to all the Afghani terrorists? Here is the best picture I can find of height comparisons.

If he is PO'ing everywhere else then you'll most likely see this pop up sometime today on SSC's site. I don't think there is a lot of hype around it to wait for a big PO.

Ditto that.
It's similar enough to the original
It's exactly like the original, except for the new head, cheesy base, and yellow plastic snot blast.
It's a great figure, but this is purely a money grab on Hot Toy's part. Other than the Jorge Stark sculpt and gimmicks, there's nothing to differentiate this release from MMS 080.
Except the price. My Mk.1 cost me $160 about three years ago on preorder. Been loving it ever since, so this is good news for folks who missed out back in '09.
But the lack of innovation, new design specs, or improvement pretty much demolishes HT's claim of "limited edition."
The new boxes should read "Limited (until we fire up the same old molds and crank out some more) Edition Figure"
"Production Limited to 950 million units worldwide (for this year)" :cuckoo:
(And no, I'm not sore about the value of my original . . . that's meaningless to someone who doesn't intend to sell.
Folks who buy Hot Toys to "speculate, flip, and make money" are dolts, much like the "collectors" who saturated and destroyed the comic book market in the 90s. Eff 'em.)

The original release was a bit undersized, which was actually a turnoff for me and one reason I didn't pursue it when first released (even at a discount from Hastings website).
Really? The same?

The new one looks 100 times better!
HS... I'd think he was refering to Mech Test Tony (but with a smaller mouth).....
http://www.figures.com/forums/attachments/news/9053d1279289994-hot-toys-mms-mech-test-tony-stark-1starkclose2.jpg
I originally thought this new sculpt was a mod of the Mech Test one keeping the same basic face, but here they look pretty different. Distance between eyes and length of mouth being most noticeable. Expression on Mark I 2.0 even seems a bit less aggressive. Maybe just a new sculpt from a sculptor that did the Mech Test version? In any case, these two sculpts are the most accurate versions HT has given us IMO, so I'm glad they went more Mech Test and less Mark IV/BD Mark III.

What i take away from this pic... is that Hot Toys now use Photoshop far too much in their previews, not one pic of the 2.0 as it'd appear in reality without all the busy background stuff.
From the side by side pics, if I were an owner if the original who keeps the helmet down all the time, I would saved my money. Folks like me who dîdn't jump inboard wit HT until later is the target audience here. IMO the original has the correct thickness and size. It looks like the armor that stopped all the bullets coming out of the cave. The new one has a lot of body parts showing.

The P2 skulls are intended to go on the same wall though, so they really are meant to go together just like the Iron Man stuff. And I guess the Predator could hold a skull (so he could "use" it), but an Iron Man could also hold the hologram and pretend it is coming out of his hand or something. In both cases, these are essentially props that fit together on the screen and don't make as much sense just sitting around on the floor next to the figure.
BTW, the regular is $200 on BBTS.

That point might be relevant if this were a basic clothed figure, but this figure requires a lot more molds, tooling and complicated paint apps. Regardless if they are recycling molds from the previous release, they still have to produce everything.

this fig used 90% of the same molding from v1. so no need to make new molding templates, & less to pay the sculptor. i'd say this lalla is why the v2 is priced as much. and we see it too in the final painted fig. such brilliant improvement in the paint app it renders v1 absolete.
i'm, of course, just mocking ht's way of hyping the fig with lalla. now we see it's all just empty hype.

No offense dude, but if your not happy with four existing red & gold suits made so far, that's your problem.
HT shouldn't be making anymore of them when other licenses only have 2-3 figures in total with many characters left without one figure at all, let alone the 20 odd figures the Iron Man license has had, with more than half of them being the same character.

(Well Fassbender for a start and i'd take a Mckellen too)
Doesn't matter anyway HT has their cash cows they won't do two Fassbender Magneto's, if they screw up it up we'll be stuck with it.
I thought the Batman and Iron Man extravaganza would have to end soon and HT could devote more time to neglected licenses, and turn some of them into cash cows, but instead to decide to redo them all.
I once thought MGS could be a cashcow for them, Big Fanbase (big japanese fanbase especially) with pkenty of characters, all they have to do is devote time to it, but they'll stick with Bats and Iron Man for years to come until people are so sick of them HT goes bankrupt as the rest of their catalogue of licenses will be two figures and done with nothing to fall back on :(
They're catering directly to Batman, Iron Man and Predator fans the rest of their customers have money to spend on the licenses they like but HT isn't prepared to make the figures and take the money.

At least you are owning your fury!
I'll help......Ours has long sold out, a true collectible. HT will mass produce v2 and it'll take years to sell out. Cherish the original, true collectible :wink1:
I'd love to have an V1. I just didn't want to pay that much for it. Hence my happiness for this being released. This also may drive down the price of V1. If so maybe I'll get that too!:nana:

Youd need to have them side by side to tell probably.

True. Judging by the pics AND assuming la la la wouldn't do a simple repaint it is a good guess it is different. :lol

Its $199.99 at BBTS (http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=HOT10377&mode=retail). Guess it'll be a bit lesser at other retailerslike FB Collectibles, Razor's Edge, etc.

Wow, I can't believe I just payed $219 for a Mark 1 when just 7 months ago I almost payed triple that but thankfully came to my senses after wife threatened castration.
$219.....Mark 1....I WIN :yess:
Let me say that again...$219 for an HT Mark 1! :yess:
Hold on, one more time.....$219.....Mark 1! :yess:

You can't half tell some people are jaded by this re-release
It's gone from 'waaah! It's not worth as much' to 'nyah nyah! Ours is original!'
It seems, however, that if you're not in that camp, (like me) you don't care if it's the original or not.
I really don't care what people will think of my re-release in the future. I'll have a 1/6 Mark 1 figure! That's all that matters, right?
