I've got a few things I need to display on a pedestal behind an acrylic cover. I thought i may have crack in making these up myself using MDF for a bit of holiday fun.
It would be great too see what other freaks have in this regard, for some ideas and inspiration. Please feel free to post some pics with some explanations here:)

Update....

I've managed to design a couple of pedestals to display my amp suit and speeder bike. They'll be made of MDF with an acryilc cover.
Unsure of how too get the best paint finish as yet...maybe satin black. I'll be making more for an x-wing, tie fighter etc.
i'll try to post some progress images when i get the chance...

Thanks for sharing!
Looks great and I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product

Black is a great color,i had make my pedestals in light grey, and white,or in "used look" :wink1:.I'am very interested in your project :wave!

^^Happy to share:)

Nice displays you have there dexter.
Stucco finish on your bases reminded me of Tatooine and Hoth.:rotfl
That base under Jabba is superb:clap
Do you mind sharing the size of your speeder bike acrylic cover (LxWxH)
so I can check against my concept.

I'm trying to go for a minimal modern sleek look where the replica is the focus. The paint finish is gonna be the key I think, so hopefully I get it right. Any suggestions from paint experts out there?

Undecided on how I'll light it yet. Suggestions or examples welcome

The dimensions of my Speederbike acrylic cover are 1 meter long,44cm deep,58cm high :wave

small update on the design concept, and have included a new design for the eFX x-wing.......I would like to hear an opinion on the height of these bases - i've made them 798mm generally (31.5inch)
Not sure if they'll look too high??

Those are gonna look awesome! The height at 31.5" sounds good too. That's about what I make mine at and it's definitely not too tall.

Beautiful display unit. :clap
I really like that maquette.
I still think it's my favorite piece:lecture

Is that an acrylic cover or glass?
It looks like you have an open bookshelf below? Hard to see on that photo

Thanks mate.

Yeh, it is an open display good for books or 1/6 scale figures.
When I had it made I originaly wanted it to be solid/closed but
then I realised that having the extra display area wouldn't hurt
either.

The stand that my face hugger is on is a solid display, spary painted
black in 2 pack gloss.

I was thinking the same - to have it spray painted in a 2 pack black gloss finish. Did you paint it or was it done by a professional spray painter or cabinetmaker?
