They call it the "Special Edition" with the inclusion of the Meteor fist. Same thing as referring to it as an Ex.

Yeah milking Spidey should be a given but wouldn't it make sense to wrap it up before the reboot? Then again we're still 7 months away.

I'm loving the texture on Spidey's suit.:clap The HS looks ok..hope they would still improve the likeness but if they won't, no biggie for me as I can already see Toby there.:monkey1

The only bummer on this was the special edition. No chance of getting that one here. Darn it.:gah:

This figure is so bought for me! :yess:

Not necessarily, they are still offering up Batman Begins pieces even though TDK was in full swing and let's not forget that Iron Monger is just now out despite them being in full IM2 mode. They know that there will be an audience for the reboot suit, one for the Raimi suit, and a small segment who want both. Not to mention selling a new Red/Blue with Tobey sculpt and a reboot version with Garfield sculpt around the same time will pray on those who would want to display them next to one another.

Lordy, that's a great likeness. I may not've been into their Spider-Man line before, but this figure is enough to get me interested. If only I had more room at the moment.

All true but based on previous releases Spidey didn't have the same buzz as anything Batman, Joker and Ironman related. If Spidey became popular it happened after it was released (in hand) That may have changed though.

To play Devil's Advocate they've got Predator 2 stuff still coming despite the film being so old and the fact they are promoting their Predators line. I wouldn't be surprised if we got the newer Spidey Red/Blue really soon before the reboot is shown as most of the R&D has already been done with this one.

Damn that Maguire sculpt is freaking perfect! Unreal!

I actually slightly disagree. The sculpt looks much better as Peter Parker / Spider-Man than Tobey did, if that makes sense.

But great sculpt, and great overall figure. Won't be picking it up as I don't want a black Spidey (I say this now, but I also said that about red Spidey), but it looks great.

The stand holding him on the base looks really tacky and sticks out really badly. But probably my only nitpick right now.

RaZaTrOn
12-21-2011, 09:28 PM
I think the next Spidey we will get will be Battle-Damaged from Spidey 1 followed by Green Goblin. IF they do continue the Spider-Man line which i reckon they will over the next few years.

Spider-man is a classic trilogy and a very successful one, Hot Toys will be able to make money from this line 5 years from now.

This is so awesome! I knew they'd up this release by adding in some sweet incentives. This and iron monger are my two main priorities going into 2012. Anybody wanna take a guess at a release date? I'm hoping its not too far off, like feb. would be great and I could bug my fiance to get me this for valentines day lol. Still also hoping for a dx, or battle damaged spidey

Ok fine it's not "perfect" nothing is. The expression is very specific and not the typical glazed Parker expression so maybe that's what's throwing it off.

Btw, love the avatar. I'm still rocking the warriors dance festival almost daily. :rock

I loved the Web of Spiderman series, so the black symbiote suit will be a welcome addition to my collection. The TM head sculpt is a nice accessory (that I prob. won't use) and the Sandman base ROCKS!

I always wanted the New Goblin figure, but a couple of unexpected purchases (HT Blade & EB T800) this year sidetracked my spending. I'm kinda happy I didn't pre order New Goblin now though, seeing as it's selling a bit cheaper now :D

Was also kinda waiting for SSC to allow the use of "gift certs" for the New Goblin figure :lol

This symbiote Spidey however, looks like an instant buy for me.

I actually didn't mean it as a knock against the sculpt. We all know Hot Toys will often "idealize" certain aspects of a person to make the sculpt look a little nicer. It seems like that happened a little bit here, and it makes the sculpt much better for it. I could never buy angry Tobey, he is just too doofy to pull it off. But angry sculpt Tobey? Looks awesome.

Either it's slightly idealized, or they found the one frame in the movie where he looked that bad ass.

Btw, love the avatar. I'm still rocking the warriors dance festival almost daily. :rock

That's what inspired me to change the avatar. I just can't get enough of that Blu-ray. Incredible performance, but the star of that show has to go to the crowd. I am highly jealous of anyone who got to go, but at the same time, the size of that crowd makes me kind of glad to be watching from the comfort of my home.

Their pit was bigger than most entire concert crowds I've been in!

The Sandman base and the Toby head made an otherwise easy, cheap meh variant, a must have. :rock

I really hope we see a few more figures from raimis spidey as you guys said. I think dropping it for the reboot would be a big mistake. I'm a bit of a fan boy for this trilogy so I'm kinda biased. I was in 7th grade when the first one came out and I was at target when I spotted the goblin and battle damaged spidey. My mom got them for me and it was like being a little kid again. Mind you I hadn't collected toys in a few years and these were the first super posable toys I ever had. I was hooked and they're what got me back into loving and collecting figures. My girlfriend (who is now my fiance) also saw sm3 after my senior prom. So its kinda corny but I have a lot of great memories attatched to these films and would love to see more done justice from HT.

Totally agree with You dance I myself love Sam Raimis spiderman. And yes he should have the emo hair since that was his look when he was under the black suits influence. But I think it's a better sale to give us a regular Parker sculpt. Looks great and awesome sculpt on Toby. Hopefully will get Venom next

I'm pretty certain that venom was confirmed in an interview with hot toys and I'm kinda glad that they held off on him so far. Its given them the opportunity to test the waters with spideys costume and the web pattern, and so I think venom will be perfect. Itd be pretty cool if they continued the trend of bases and gave venom the giant symbiote creature after he parts with eddie brock

Blame Joseph Tsang.... This sandman version is more of money truck robbery or final battle version... with blue/red Spidey...

A semi-sand/human sculpt (with green band shirt) is more appropriate for the battle with the Black-suited Sipdey.

Definately cool. Wasn't sooo keen on the blue/red spidey, but this one catches my attention a lot more. One of my first action figs was a black spidey a looong time ago...so why not go back to this.

Like the head sculpt, for comparison:

Figure looks great. I'm really liking how it turned out. Excellent headsculpt too and the incredible base plus reworked webbings makes me feel bad for those who got the initial release.

What was the general consensus on posing the original release? I'd love to get this figure, but not if all he can do is slightly bend his joints because it may stretch out or tear the material over time. I don't buy these figures for statues. There's no point if I can't have fun with it and not suffer down the road because of it.

If your going to play with this collectible or put him in really dynamic poses then you run the risk of tearing the suit. And over time if you stretch it and then repose it you can lose its original fitted design to the suit. May be become baggy due to the stretch. I just pose them and that's it. These hts are too expensive to play with or be reposing them every day IMO.

Wouldn't it make more sense to compare this symbiote's new pattern to that of the actual stock figure of the red and blue as apposed to the prototype?:dunno, the actual figure turned out way better then the prototype with the webbing being one of the biggest improvements!

WOW!!!! I am sold and they addressed the switchout head issue. Fixed the webbing, and improved the fit of the suit. They did fabric over a molded neck, and fabric over sculpted head to get a removebale head sculpt on/off. I understand why they did not do this initially on the original red and blue one, but I think they are going to do a DX red and blue now with a switchout head later.

I wish they would have shown how the neck joint looks when the masked head is on in any of these pics. Nice that this head seems to still be covered in cloth and not the plastic that appeared on the earlier prototype. Emo hair would have been much preferable to this. At $200, price seems a bit much, considering the other Spidey was about $50 cheaper, but that's what you pay when you get huge stand I won't have room to display and an extra head that I'm gonna keep in the box.

Maybe, but I'm not sure how popular those accessories will be. Obviously the head can't go on red and blue Spidey, so that would only work for Parker customs. And if I'm doing a civilian Parker, do I want angry, scowling Peter? The base probably will be reasonably popular, though the only figure it really goes with is red and blue Spidey, so it lacks the broader appeal that the building piece had.

Having said that, I'm sure you would at least make back the $50 extra you paid by selling those.

I don't really care too much one way or the other. I could do without it. But it's just one kind of lame scene in a movie chock full of awesome sauce. I thought the stopping of the the train itself was pretty cool.

AH HA! But you could "do without it", which means you do not like it, which means you question Sam Raimi, which means you do not approve of the job he did with the greatest Marvel character ever!!!

I see through your ruse, you vagabond… You too dislike scenes in the Spider-Man films and only your love affair with Sam Raimi keeps you from taking to rooftops and screaming at the top of your lungs ‘I WOULD CHANGE A THING OR TWO ABOUT ALL THREE OF THE SPIDER-MAN FILMS, ESSPECIALLY HOW FREQUENTLY SPIDER-MAN TAKES HIS MASK OFF… I ALSO LIKE KETCHUP ON MY HOT DOGS!!!!'

Isn't batman going to not be Batman for a long time in The Dark Knight Rises? I swear, Batman and Spiderman parallel each other.

Bruce Wayne is somewhat of an engaging character, though. Peter Parker in the Raimi movies was a whiny loser.

Parker was supposed to be a "loser". It's Peter Parker. Batmans supposed to be a spoiled rich boy who calls upon his butler to wipe his ass at every moment. After being sprayed by Scarecrows gas, all I heard was "ALFRED! ALFRED!!!!!!!!! ALFRED!" X2 > Spider-Man 2, as a comic book movie. X2 might be the best of the bunch in my view. In terms of just really well made films that happen to be about comic book characters, I think Batman Begins/Dark Knight and First Class are the best. But both are so different from the source materials that they don't register as comic books come to life in the way that some others do.

I agree about Wolverine being ass.

When you shove the team leader into a crappy secondary character position for all 3 movies, somethings wrong (I still don't like Cyclops much to this day, but come on). SP2> X2

It wasn't perfect (the Incredibles is probably the only comic-like movie that comes close to that), but it appropriately reflected the post-1988 or so belief by Marvel that the X-Men are essentially "Wolverine and Friends."

:exactly:

That's the only problem I have with the XMen friends is that by the third it is entirely the Wolverine show.

I though The Incredible Hulk was really good. I also think that while Ghost Rider was underwhelming it did seem to capture the silly charm of comic books from the 70's and early 80's.

karamazov80
12-22-2011, 01:49 PM
Possibly. Honestly, I haven't followed comics for several years now. Wolvie was split up from the main group at various points in time. But ultimately, Wolverine is the core X-Men character in Marvel's eyes and has been for a long while now. Only appropriate that the movie reflect that reality.

I do agree that Cyclops was criminally underutilized in those films as a whole, but the spirit of the X-Men was there in the first couple films (particularly the 2nd one since it didn't require as much exposition, and since Singer et al. were more comfortable in their shoes at that point).

I also thought the Norton Hulk movie was a very good comic movie, as are all the current Marvel Studios releases (including the maligned Iron Man 2).

Looks cool... Could never imagine displaying this with the Toby head though. If there was one thing that really pissed me off about the Raimi trilogy it was how often Spidey was ripping his mask off. I don't want to hear some BS about "well, it's hard to convey a wide range of emotion when the lead character has a mask covering his face." No, that's crap. I want to see SPIDER-MAN, not Peter Parker... Same went for Venom. Did we even see his face for more than a couple brief moments in SM3? And he HAS A MOUTH!! He can talk and so emotion, so why show Topher Grace's mug over and over??? Show Venom, damnit!... I don't even like the character all that much, but if you're gonna put him in the film then show him, not Eddie Brock.

And yes, I'm venting.

Spot on.

And for those that doubt being able to convey emotion with a static face, just look how well it was done in V for Vendetta.

He spent too much time depowered in SM2. I can't watch those movies anymore as they haven't aged well.

Sure, the Sandman is bigger, but it's not as if it's some elaborate item... This thing just doesn't make sense. It's a big price bump with very little extra incentive to the consumer.

They probably need to make Spider-Man mega expensive to cover the Disney/Marvel license. :(

So, much of this price goes to the Toby McGuire Foundation?

Thems the Cider House rules. :dunno

I loved this suit but not the price so much, I went with the Non-Ex (I don't really care about the switchout hand for a base I'll never use) because with free shipping and being in CA having to pay tax it'll be around the price of going through an AD, but at least through SSC since there isn't an NRD, I can mull it over and see how my cash situation lines up after the holidays.

If this is the base price though it's going to be really easy to be really selective.

I never complained. Spider-Man is a hero that wants to protect his identity at all costs, although he does run around with his mask off a lot in the movies for some reason. I'd only want a separate emo Peter Parker release. I wouldn't use the unmasked sculpt on this figure.

A jump to $210 from $150 in such a short amount of time is pretty crazy, even with the extra stuff.

$149 is so 2010, inflation is a beach.

Did you guys REALLY think that this would be sub-$200?!? Wow you haven't learned anything about Hot Toys or this hobby in a while. As far as I'm concerned... Red/blue Spidey was a steal at that price. $360 for both and a sandman base seems pretty par ffor the course.

On the fence until $210 pricetag came along and it becomes an easy pass. AE has it at $189 therefore, I predict someone will sell it cheaper than AE in the for sale thread then I might bite. HT is a crazy mother ____er :rotfl

This is what I love about Hot Toys these days. No matter how cool their figures look, their prices are absurd and complete ripoffs so I can instantly drop all interest in them without looking back even once. Feels good man.

ditto. $210 for this? No thanks.

I had hair places that you could only dream of when pogs came out. I was knee deep in Star Wars bendies thank you very much. :lol

Ahh, the Star Wars bendies. I remember those being the only Star Wars toys available for awhile when I was a little kid as the normal Kenner lines were pretty much gone by the time I was old enough to want Star Wars figures. I was a pretty happy kid when the POTF2 line came out.

While not instantly for me once the initial hype and awe is over and if you haven't ordered yet, it's not so hard to remove those rose-tinted glasses and see the price and value for what they are.

I haven't ordered any HT in quite a while, i'm keeping an eye on the Samurai Pred (reward points in-progress) and Bespin Luke & probably this for future purchases if things are right then around the time they come along.

You know how you know i'm addicted to these forums?

I'm already think how great it would look to snap some pics of this, my Back in Black LBS and Back in Black Comiquette all together to show here :lol
