An edition size of 15 just plain STINKS for a completist collector; if I were a collector of the 1:1 Uni-Mon Busts (I'm not), I would probably drop the line altogether if I missed out on this. I'm still steamed that the only 1/6 Uni Monster missing from my collection is the Ultra-ultra-ultra-rare SSE Son of Frankenstein ( only 10 produced!). I even have the Christmas Frankenstein and Dracula, but after spending well over a grand collecting 'em all, I'm still one figure short! Like I stated in another post, it feels like a kick in the crotch; not a nice way to reward your loyal buyers.

Thanks everyone! I was refreshing the newsletter page, the home page and the Vintage Monsters page waiting for something to come up. A couple of minutes before the newsletter arrived, I swear I saw a banner for it come up on the Vintage Monsters page, but I wasn't looking for that so I hit refresh before I got a really good look! This happened twice, and then I started refreshing looking just for that banner! It was just dumb luck that I actually remembered to go refresh the newsletter page in the nick of time! :chew

If I decide to continue collecting the SSE busts, and miss one, I won't be too distraught... I might pout for a couple of days, but there will always be one for sale shortly after they come out! Here's hoping I don't have to find out! :monkey4

I only have a few 1/4's on display at the moment, but I do have most of the busts out. I will get some pictures this weekend of my meager display and dig out some older ones with more of the PF on display!

ya know I really wish SS would not announce low ES products in advance like this. It attracts too many sharks that are chasing the low ES and not the product.
If they didnt announce it, the true collectors would stumble across a nice surprise and the flippers would not even click on the link cause otherwise they wouldnt be interested in the product.
Luckily I wasnt interested in this, but I stepped away from my comp for a matter of seconds and missed the opportunity.
If they still had an ES of 15 for the Ardeth Bay, but just didnt let the public know it would be sold out after 15 were sold, I'd bet they would still be available right now.

I understand why its disclosed. I just hate it when the ES sells a product and not the product itself.
Maybe do a 24hr inclusive edition with things like this in the future? or maybe have a lottery pick similar to how SDCC exclusives were handled a couple years back?

... I just always have flash-backs of hunting down 1-per-casers in the stores and it being next to impossible to get them cause I actually had a job and either the employees got them or the local shops had lil' jobless, good-fer-nuthin go-fers hit all the stores thru the day!! :banghead

they could have not posted the edition size but still had the low quantity bar. that way the people who were interested would have clicked the link and seen that there were only a few available and knew they should purchase sooner rather than later while at the same time keeping everyone and there brother from looking at the page right off the bat because they knew it would be super limited. Of course I have no problem with the way they sold this or the gray hulk. it's their business and who am I to tell them how to run it. When something is this limited you're not going to please everyone, no matter what you do.

i just finished taking some pics of Ardeth. this 1:1 bust seriously floored me on how lifelike it is! it nearly made me pee with fear! :lol man, i must have an active imagination because i could swear from looking at it that it was alive and about to bite me or something!! that alone gave me the chilly willies!

i took these pics without flash and in different light settings. i'm not completely happy with how it turned out so with that let me say the age old "pics do not do this justice" because it's true! i'll have to take pics of the color version when i get the chance. i can already hear it begging me to open him!

yeah. sideshow really should institute some policy preventing this. you should have to fill out and sign a form to prove you are a "true collector" before you are allowed to purchase anything from them. That would prevent these things from happening.:rolleyes:

They probably keep a wait list open until at least 30 days after the last piece ships, in case someone returns an item they aren't happy with. Of course, when it is this limited, they probably should have closed the list last week sometime.

hey ox, no worries. i know i don't take the best of pics but i try. i also took more pics in that thread also. check it out. i'll also blame my simple 3.3 megapixel camera. it's old and outdated of which i'll upgrade one of these days but it does an ok job. also, i took the pics without flash under probably not the best of lighting conditions. :D

I'd already decided this would be one of "those" items that I would keep an eye out for on eBay and pay a much heftier price at some point (like the one currently on eBay for $1600!). I've been quite sad (as sad as one tends to be about this sort of thing) since missing out on it when it first went up for order. So I knew this would be my "Balrog" or "Grey vs." piece, and I'd have to just be prepared to pay whatever it would take to get it. So getting it thru the wait list is extremely cool! :fireworks

I guess ALL the numbers on this bust are low, I mean, none are over 15, right? And the highest numbers are already accounted for, so you would have to have gotten no higher than 9 (unless you're talking about the color version?). :monkey1

:monkey2 Got officially closed out of the Ardeth Bay waitlist yesterday! Bummer, as I was thinking of turning him into a full sized figure for a home theater dispaly.

I'll just take that as a sign that something much cooler must be coming!

Just an observation, but I think the reason the SSE looks more dynamic is the dark shading around the eyes, really make them pop!

I've been meaning to ask those of you who own him, the fez is NOT removable correct? And is it flocked?

Since I assume that the only difference between these busts is the color vs. b&w, then I think I can answer. The fez is not removeable and is flocked.

I agree with you, Grim Jim, I think what looked so great about the SSE pics is the eyes, with the dark shading. The color version has lots of depth, and the SSE version (from what I can tell) has that "movie" look, which is oh so cool! :D

Got home Tuesday and nada. On Wednesday I contacted Sideshow to let them know something very very bad was happening. :monkey2 Talked to Jennifer who called FedEX and she's having them try and track this down.

It's my understanding from Shannon at SS (who's working this for me) that there is a replacement (one LAST replacement) should my first bust go missing permanently. And I'm sitting on pins and needles praying that someone in Sideshow shipping doesn't ship out my 'last best hope' for getting one of these til FedEx has done their trace.

OK, so here's the end of this story on my end: I contacted Shannon on Monday about whether she'd heard from FedEx and their so-called "trace" efforts for my package, and she said she had not received any additional info from FedEx, so she said she would ship the LAST SSE Ardeth Bey bust they had left to me, to go out on Tuesday. I called her around noon on Tuesday to see if the bust had left yet, and she said no, it was sitting by her desk to go out. I told her I would gladly (GLADLY, I say!!!) pay whatever the extra shipping was to have it shipped two day in order to ensure it arrived with a quicker tracking system (possibly harder to lose if it's supposed to be winging its way somewhere in a couple of days, right?). I'm at home this week and knew I would be able to sign for the package instead of having to pick it up next week. Shannon asked how long I'd be at home and I said til Monday. She said she would send it "3 day" at NO extra charge and it would arrive Friday (today).

And guess what, it DID! It arrived about an hour ago, and I've inspected it and it's perfect! The ironic thing is that I knew that busts numbered 7 thru 15 have been accounted for, so whatever number I got, it would be 6 or less. I actually DID get #6, which means the bust that FedEx "lost" was #5 or less! Still really pisses me off! I won't disagree that I'm becoming a more cynical person, but I'm awfully suspicious that FedEx just misplaced this extremely rare item. What, seriously, are the odds of that, hmm?

Thanks, everyone! I too am still trying to figure out how to display. I have enjoyed the pics of previously posted displayed SSE Bey's, and I've definitely got some ideas. I think I will have to wait til I get my phantom shelves built, so I can do some cool lighting with him. This piece absolutely rocks!

On a final down note, per Shannon at SS: The "first" bust seems to have disappeared. FedEx has thrown up their hands and said they don't know where it is. Shannon doesn't know what number it was, all that can be said for sure is that it was numbered anywhere from 1 to 5. I suspiciously expect one to show up on eBay before too long... :rolleyes: :monkey2
