Does anyone know what will be on these to make them different from the Legacy sets? They are 26.95 each...so I am curious what the deal is? Do you think maybe they have offered a colorized version as an extra for each film? I ordinarilly will shy away from films that have been colorized. But they better put something on there to make me purchase them.

Or do you suppose its just full of a bunch of talking heads with nothing to say, with a lovely new inflated price tag. Anyway, here is the cover art, courtesy of Davis DVD site.

I haven't heard about these... probably just a slight change to get more buyers. How's the quality on the Legacy sets? I've thought about buying them before but I was worried they might be kinda crappy :monkey1

How many times do I have to buy these? :monkey4

Here's some cool news for you classic monster fans... Universal has just announced plans to release new 2-disc 75th Anniversary Legacy Editions of both its original Dracula and Frankenstein on DVD on 9/26 (SRP $26.98). The new editions will include the digitally remastered films in their original full frame (1.33:1) with Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono audio. Extras are set to include documentaries, feature-length audio commentaries and more TBA. We'll post additional details as they come in.

I have them on VHS. I have them on DVD in their original 1999 poster art cases. I have the Legacy Collections. But damn, do I love these films so much, I will definately buy them again. ESPECIALLY if DRACULA has been newly restored, and both have good extras.

Yeah! What he said!!!!! :D :chew :chew :chew :chew :chew

I bet they are the same as the previous Legacy sets, which are very nice as is for 70 year old films. The new covers are nice, but pass unless you don't have em.

The best part is that these are coming out on my Birthday!!!:chew :chew :chew

On a little side note, due to more informed members, I looked up 'This island Earth', the Metulant Mutant film, on Amazon. The one available now, dated 1955, is available for some extravagant price, like $70, while the new to be released version in August, dated 1954, is up at a discount price of around $15. What's with that?

Here's some info posted at the Classic Horror Film Board:

Scott Essman who works with Universal on PR has said that there will be new commentaries on both titles (not sure who's doing them), new extras and maybe some of the extras from the first releases. Other than the Spanish version of Dracula being part of the Dracula DVD, I don't believe any of the other "Dracula" or "Frankenstein" films will be included. They are just spotlighting to two titles that are celebrating their 75th birthdays. Also, it appears that no new restoration work was done to either film so they'll be the same versions released as part of the Legacy Collections.

I got the DVD sets that came out around 'Van Helsing' release time. The quality was already very nice and they even came with a bunch of the sequels. So I doubt I will be buying them again...

I just realized that Karloff the gentle monster and Lugosi the Dark Prince are A&E Biographies. So this means there is nothing new except some of the commentaries.

I'm wondering what the verdict was on these? I've been getting the Legacy Collection from Netflix and enjoying them. If I'm going to buy, should I get the "Van Helsing" Legacy Collection titles or the new 75th anniversary set?

Got the Legacy set that came with the SS Busts (I worked at a retail joint and got em for cost) no need for these

The Legacy sets come with all the sequels. I like the packaging on the 75th anniversary editions. So, I have both. I am a Universal Classic Movie Monsters harlot. I cave d and bought them. God, I feel so cheap!!! :D I'm gonna take a hot bath and scrub for hours now. Seriously though...if you want the sequels...go Legacy.

I read a review on the 75th Dracula edition and the reviewer felt they used a cleaner print of Dracula this time around then on the Legacy edition. There is also a new commentary on the 75th that seems to be well worth it.

I can't complain at all, I have the orginal Universal Monster Box Set from way back in the day, all the legacy editions that came out and now the Dracula 75th Edition as well, I'll probably break down and get the Frankenstein one soon enough.

if you like off beat movie reviews of everything from Horror, to Cheesy Sci Fi to soft core porn this is the site for you

I had to have them too! I look at it as a collection; I have every version of the classic Universal monsters that have been released on DVD and several versions on VHS. It's sad really... :monkey2
