Ever since they hit a week or two ago, the new Pirates of the Caribbean figures available at the Disney stores have been the talk of the toy town. Are they better than Zizzle and NECA? Are the sculpts up to par, or are they second rate? I finally found them late last week while in Minnesota, and I have a review up tonight of Jack and Davy. Yes, they are cool - but they might not be just the right thing for you. Check out the review for the details:

While I was gone I also managed to catch Superman Returns, and I have a movie review *gasp* up tonight as well. Thanks for reading, and if you're one of the Yanks, have a terrific fourth of July!

Thanks Michael, yet another fair and excellent review!

Personally I am waiting for the Medicom Jack Sparrow, looks amazing!

That's too bad about the quality on these figures. I really liked the Narnia figures (at least Peter and Aslan who I bought) and was expecting Disney to bridge that gap between quality sculp/paint and decent articulation for POTC. But in the shots with the NECA figures there really is no comparison and for the price the Disney figures just look dead in the water. But probably good for kids...

If only NECA would just add some elbows and knee joints I'd be a much happier camper :monkey2

Well, you saved me a drive down to Roanoke. Thanks for the review, MWC. I think I'll stick with NECA.

I agree that looks pretty bad.

How are these equal in value to NECA? Articulation over sculpt and paint? Nevah!

I guess it depends on the collector. Some value articulation very highly and may even prefer it to a superior sculpt.

Myself, I'm all about the sculpt and the overall look of the figure. Not so much the articulation. I want the figure to be as close to the character as possible, if not exact. That can sway me when I purchase something. Articulation doesn't.

NECA's are my favorites of the smaller figures. The only NECA POTC figure I think has a weaker sculpt is Will.
