View Full Version : The next Grey Hulk?

The newsletter says next week the newsletter will feature an EXTREMELY limited Universal Monster item. Could this end up as the next grey Hulk? I just hope it is a black and white 1:1 bust and not a new 1/6 monster figure. While I'd like a new figure, I don't want it to be a pain to get.

I doubt it's a 1:6 figure.
It could be a Silver Screen Edition 1:1 Dracula bust with a CAPE AND MEDALLION! CAPE AND MEDALLION!! CAPE AND MEDALLION!!!
Nah.

That was funny!
It's going to be IN STOCK, so make sure that your wallets are ready to take an immediate hit and snag one of the 50 Creature From the Black Lagoon PFs...

Why, oh why, does Sideshow do things like this? Just over two weeks before Comic Con and everyone is trying to pay for SDCC exclusives and save money if they are going, and we get deluged with product shipping all at once! Then, on top of that, they decide NOW would be a great time to release an in-stock, extremely limited product!!
Sideshow, for the love of Pete, please consider your collectors and everything that is shipping when you consider pulling stunts like this!!
And yes, that is all it is... a stunt!!! There is absolutely no need to do something like this when it obviously has been in production for several months and could easily have been a preorder!!! :tap

Yeah I jumped the gun. You are right Lonnie. It must be in the warehouse now. At least the newsletter subscribers will get first pop at this before any Con crowd.

If it is an in stock item...it cannot be a Lugosi Dracula 1;1 bust with CAPE AND MEDALLION. My guess is that it is a Silver Screen Ardeth Bey 1:1 bust limited to 25 pieces or less. Not that I have any inside info. or anything...cause I don't. If its a new PF or something that I really want I better be able to get me one. If this turns into a limited to only 10 pieces kinda thing, I will be disturbed. Jus' sayin'.

I will be on vacation next week away from any technology so if this super special limited item has anything to do with the Creature from the Black Lagoon or Lord of the Rings for that matter, I will have my pitchfork and torch ready to dish out some vengence. :emperor

It's definitely not LOTR, it's a Universal Monster item. And since it's in stock, it will be a variation on an existing/recently shipped item. I think that Anton has the best guess with a B&W version of the Ardeth bust.

I was really hoping they would not do Silver Screen versions of the 1:1 busts! I can't imagine it can be anything else, but it just doesn't make sense on an item this expensive that was pretty limited already... I hope it isn't, but then, it would be something that hasn't been released and that would be even worse!
...and I still can't see the reason for doing this to their collector base!

I couldn't agree more Lonnie.
I might have to cancel a few things to pick up this "item" if it's something I want. If SS would of just done this at a different time I probably would of bought both items. Now it looks like I'll have to "pick and choose" what I want.

Yeah, me too! I was already struggling to pay for the SDCC exclusives, have money to pay for SDCC itself, pay for existing pre-orders that are shipping and paying for already shipped stuff, I didn't need an in-stock limited item that I either have to get when released or risk missing it! It boggles the mind...

What about a silver screen edition of the Invisable Man 1/6? I think he is one of the few originals (ie not a frankenstein variant, etc.) that hasn't been made in black and white. The Metaluna Mutant too.

The Mummy doesn't have a 12" silver screen edition either. And the Metaluna Mutant doesn't need to be in b/w, since THIS ISLAND EARTH was shot in color.

I forgot about the Invisible Man and the Metaluna Mutant! As far as the Mutant goes, he was released in a Silver Screen Edition for both the Little Big Head series and the 8" series, so there is no reason they wouldn't do a 12" SSE version.

I assume 12" figures cost more to make and sell, so making an innacurate figure of a character who never appeared that way on film, wouldn't be very wise, especially when there are more characters who deserve the SSE treatment.

SS feels so bad about the SSE PF Wolfman paint job that theyre custom painting a few themselves and offering them to the public to somewhat clear their conscience.

Yes Batty, I'm excited too. And of course you are right: we will not be the only ones anticipating this. The scalpers are probably already selling the item on the Evil-Bay, before they even know what it is!! That is pretty sad. But more importantly, all interested collectors who've read this weeks newsletter will have the same opportunity to snatch that mysterious item. And why? Because they know what the deal is. They are informed. This time, there where no hints to find. Straight forward information. I like it better that way.

Well, if it were just a normal preorder you would be right, but when it is going to be "in-stock" and you have to have the funds available with only a week's notice, then it will be very difficult for most any collector to "be prepared" if it turns out to be something expensive like a SSE 1:1 bust or a 1/4 PF figure. I don't call that an "acceptable time frame" at all!!!

well...if its in stock then its not something new.
my guess is that its ardeth bey as the mummy 1:1 bust limited to 50.
it wouldnt be difficult to change the costume for mummy wraps.
it would also tie in nicely with the mummy 1/4 pf.
i bet alot of people would go mad to have a mummy bust

I think that would smell like a breath of fresh air. I would pass on the SSE, but would be happy knowing there was a coloured Ygor on the way. Not likely, because the coloured versions usually come out first. Now if it were a coloured Ygor...... Nah. That isn't going to happen.

OMG that was fast. We really really didn't expect that AT ALL! Wait List is up :duff
Edit: Gone in 1 minute, 21 seconds. Just missed the 'gone in 60 seconds' joke by a hair :lol

I had it in my cart and passed. Don't regret it. I rather have someone else here take a shot as I have no interest in this character.

I did the exact same thing! :lol

Not that I was going to order it but, where was the link in the Newsletter?
Do you have your Vintage Monsters interest selected? The best way to ensure that you don't miss anything is to 'select all' preferences. When you log-in to your newsletter account, you will see them with check-marks on the right of your screen :duff

the page is back.
I had to pass on this one, but seems a very nice one too.
So hard to chose between colour and b&w, especially for the PF ones...
Hope someone who has both of these will make some pics of the two busts next to each other

i think it was available to order for about 90 seconds, as i was refreshing the newsletter rapidly and got to it really quick. i expected it to go that fast. i mean, there's at least 15 scalpers (ok, fans too) who knew about it.

Glad I'm not a collector of the 1:1 UNI Monster Busts; this would feel like a kick in the crotch, and would likely cause me to abandon the line altogether. I mean, geez, 15 ?!!!! What realistic chance does that give the average fan of completing their set? I felt the same way about the Super-limited SSE SON OF FRANKENSTEIN (10 pieces); it doesn't seem like Sideshow Collectibles is being very appreciative or considerate of their core audience when they do something like this. IMO, of course.

MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY! But I knew if it was the B&W bust I did not need it since the color one is fine with me.

My guess was pretty good!
I was off by 10 though.

If it's a $550 full scale bust variant that most of the fans already own in color, it won't sell out in minutes.
But if it's $650, it'll sell out in SECONDS!!!
(Looks like my prediction was wrong this time...)
I'm really happy for those 15 people but where is the 1:1 VAMPYRE?!!! :naughty

My only complaint is that, again, a very limited piece is offered at a time tha't's not really convenient for foreign customers....believe it or not, but some of us have to get some sleep in order to work :o .

I got the bust I only have one hour to sleep before I go to work but sleep we can do when we die.

I agree. As a foreign customer, you never stand a chance buying something that limited, because it'll always be gone in the morning.
Anyway, I'm happy that SSC announced it properly this time. Milk and cookies kept me awake, and I actually could have ordered the bust, if I wanted too.

Yeah, but the cash you saved by not getting that bust is like a day or more of work. Everybody wins.
I'd be pissed if this was something other than just a repainted variant. But I got the color one; all is well.

No offense but this was the most convenient time to post this. SS is a US based company so it only makes sense that they would offer this at at time where their biggest group of customers could purchase it, which is what they did. What would of made you happy? SS put this item on sale at a time where it would of been convenient for you but piss off their core collectors? That's company suicide.
I know it sucks when you are a collector and a certain item you want isn't available to you cause of your geologic location. Do you know how many times I've missed out on items that have been released overseas cause I live in the US? You should feel lucky that SS even deals with iternational customers. I wish some of the Japaneese companys would let US customers buy direct from them like SS does.

You have any numbers of the money SS gets from the US and all other countries? Got it from a palantir?
What would of made you happy?
[QUOTE]
Make maybe, 5, pieces available for sale only for foreign people. Hard to imagine, but there are collectors outside the US. But i dont think that would bring more $$. So it would only produce costs.

He started it at a good opening price; including Sideshow shipping, listing fees, final value fees and PayPal fees, if it ended at that price, he would actually lose a bit. Hopefully someone who really wanted this will get it.
