Nope. I refuse. I never wanted those figures as a kid and I don't now. I think a sense of completion in the vintage line goes as far as you're willing to take it. I set the perameters, which means I don't NEED to get Droids or Ewoks figures, variants, vehicles, etc.... Besides, they look lame-o.

I have a huge SW collection going back to 1977. Right now I pretty much collect 1/6th figures, but at one time I was a hardcore collector of just about everything: figures, books, magazines, masks, trading cards, albums, posters and a ton of other crap. If it had the words "Star" and "Wars" on it, I had to have it. :lol

There was never a lot of Blade Runner collectibles. Then or now. And even though I'm a big BR fan, Star Wars made a huge impact on me as a kid in the 70s.

Btw, I remember the first time I heard about BR was in an issue of Bantha Tracks.

I finished watching the original 1977 version of Star Wars yesterday in 720p. Not even an Episode IV tagline.

Then I started watching Star Wars Begins. If you're a fan of Star Wars, you have to watch that, Building Empire, and Returning to Jedi. They are full-length documentaries (2+ hours each) with all kinds of various things, even some of the actual on-set dialog recordings of the scenes we've seen a hundred times watching the movies. Prowse's voice as Vader is too funny.

Badass mom. Also that's what I was going for Joseph, a sister (or broski) thread to the Vintage thread. With all the hoopla surrounding SW lately, it's kind of rekindled my interest in the holy trilogy...and it's mongoloid cousin the prequels. :wink1:

Here's the answer for the speederbikes on Tatooine:

It took me 25 years to find out, but the speeder bikes were there simply because they were on the same trucks with the skiffs, from the manufacturers. So they stored them under the platform until they moved on to Crescent City, CA for the Endor scenes.

:lol

Yes, I hear you there! I was the same, and you could collect everything back then, it wasn't as crazy as it is now. But then the 90's came.... :horror

So now I just get the Hasbro stuff (but I can see that I am almost done, since they have made almost EVERYBODY) and the Sideshow 1/6. And I still get the Insider and the odd thing. Hard to believe I've been buying this stuff since '77!

Here's a couple of fun pics you might all enjoy from 'back in the day'.

Batty that box is awesome, thank you for sharing. I love the ART OF books, AND I need me those SW & Empire sketchbooks. I recently picked up the Jedi version for 5 bucks MINT. Let me know if you ever want to sell your stuff, it looks like it's in immaculate shape. :naughty

Y'know, back when that special edition foolishness first happened and I saw it in the theaters, none of it seemed like that bad of an idea, and it didn't bother me very much. I was just glad to be able to watch Star Wars in the theaters. I guess I just got nerdier and more ornery as the years have passed.

I was 18 and dumb. Everything is cool when you're 18. :lol

I made sure to take care of all of my things when I was a kid. I really was weird back then. Actually, I still am. :lol

And I've had some of this stuff for almost 35 years... I doubt I'll be getting rid of any of it anytime soon. With all the thousands and thousands of dollars I've spent over years and years of collecting, it's what I collected back in the 70s and 80s that means the most to me.

I still haven't opened "the box" yet.

Now this is a good Star Wars thread!

I always wanted that McQuarrie Empire Portfolio that Batty posted, but when I was a kid and saw it in Bantha Tracks, I didn't really get what an advance art portfolio was - I knew it was cool and I was already fascinated with McQuarrie's work, but at five years old some of those things remained unknown to me.

I do still have my old Bantha Tracks t-shirt though ...

Now I'm tempted to follow Batty's lead and post a few shots of some of my old Fan Club and vintage items ...

those behind the scenes pics were awesome. makes you wonder though if lucas had the foresight then to have an ace photog document the film making process of all his movies. im sure he did and has tons of on site & personal photos that will never see the light of day.

I honestly think they didn't, and Gary Kurtz took the pics himself. He's a photographer and shot a lot that are now finally seeing the light of day. Star Wars had the worst behind the scenes pics. Most of them thought they were making a flop and didn't take any. For ESB Kurtz took a bunch again but they were still worried they were making a flop. Amazing when you think of it.

More pics anyone?

thenammagazine
09-23-2011, 06:52 AM
Given the global phenomenon that was Star Wars, how could anybody even think ESB would be a flop? :cuckoo:

Brinn 71
09-23-2011, 06:55 AM
Hard to believe. When you read the Making of ESB, they talk a lot back then about how sequels usually flop (back then) and how nervous they were. I guess that made them work harder to make a great film. The end result speaks volumes!
