Got the 3 Aliens Marines today. I'm still on the first step of the first one in assembly. When they say model kits, they ought to say impossible to assemble model kits. The first step is putting the chest plate on and I can't seem to get it tight enough with the scale 1/6 screwdriver that comes with the set.

Dave, can you post some pics in the Aliens thread too?

Okay, got Hicks put together, one hour, 20 minutes. And I have 3 tiny pieces that I might think broke off, but they don't look broken, but like they go on some equipment somewhere. When I first started him I didn't think it was possible that he could wear/hold everything at once, but he can.

It's a truly awesome figure, I just wish the sculpt was better or even better painted. The equipment detail is fantastic, but the head makes him look more like GI Joe.

Lonnie at hero heads Frontline has a custom Hicks head, some of us have already had Frontline Apone heads repainted by Customikey

see Alien/Aliens thread, lots of pics there and a few of the custom heads on the marines

Okay, figured out that 2 of the tiny spare pieces are the padlock over Hicks' heart. I only had to watch the movie to figure it out.

Are you sure these are from SideShow and not Ikea? :rotfl

Yeah, the Frontline heads are miles ahead of the Hot Toys Versions. I actually have a set I am soon to be painting for a board member and they look phenomenal. I'd recommend them to anyone who is getting either of those two Marines.... Worth the investment.

Got my marines this weekend as well. The details on the the costumes and equipment is phenomenal.

I have to say that as hard as it is to put these suckers together, I really am enjoying it. It really forces you to appreciate all the detail they put into everything. What I loved was how I spent 15 to 20 minutes to tie the tiny laces on Hick's boots when they got covered up with the leg armor anyway.

Makes me want to order that Hot Toys Reese From T1. Anyone know if Sideshow has plans to distribute this piece?

Pics look great Dave, but Predator had better get his targetting system plugged back into his shoulder canon :D

Haven't found where the wires plug in, any tips would be appreciated.

They plug in under his shoulder cannon, but once the head is on its near impossible to put them in..I just have mine stuffed in between his back and the armor.

The wires on my Scar plug into the interior base of the shoulder cannon around where the left shoulder blade is.

Hope this helps Dave.

disclaimer-- Don't try this at home. I actually tried to remove the cannon to plug these in and you can see that I have to a little repair job. Just haven't gotten around to it yet. But the good news is, I didn't make the same mistake twice and Celtic predator is still whole.

Ouch, I was trying to remove the cannon and it was resisting so I didn't force it. Looks like it needs to happen before mounting it. I still haven't built up Scar and I've had him for a couple of weeks.

I didn't find it too hard to put them in with the head attached. Not easy, exactly, but it only took a minute or so.

Okay.... how in the BLOODY HE!! do you get the top part of the torso to secure??? I see that there is a lip that fits underneath as well as a post that connect the two, but how do you do it AT THE SAME TIME???
As for the lame little screwdriver.... throw that sucker out and pick up an eyeglass repair kit at WalMart that has a much better one.

I just squeezed until they went together. Didn't ever get the screws to tighten though, not sure if I stripped them or it just wasn't meant to be.

Yeah, don't use that 1/6 screwdriver, save it for a 1/6 tool kit, diorama, or something. I just use my Philips screwdriver for electronics that I've used on toys since the old 3 3/4" Joes.
If my memory is correct, the way I got the chest pieces together is first, you press the shoulder pieces into the front half of the chest (not an easy task) then fit the front chest (with the shoulders in place) on that waist piece. I also seem to remember theres a neck peice, you'll also want to push that into the chest peice as well.
Then making sure that all the pieces attached to the front half of the body stay in place, fit the back half on. The back/chest should push into place first by pushing on the center of the back; then firmly push the shoulders into the back half (you'll kind of do all this at the same time). Lastly, there's those little tabs at the very top of the shoulders, they'll each snap into place with quite a struggle. Make sure that the two posts at each shoulder line up with the corresponding holes on the other side before trying to push them into place.
It might help to use a little bit of soap on the two pegs and the recessed tab.

It's not at all easy, be prepared to push the shoulders in firmly (just try not to break it ;) ).

Oh and by the way, if anyone doesn't want to buy the privately sculpted Hicks head sculpts out there (for what ever reason), and doesn't like the stock head, go and find a loose Hot Toys US Navy SEAL in Vietnam--Stoner M63A Machine Gunner body.
This figure to be exact:
http://www.toys2.net/product.php?productid=19622&cat=112&page=1
The head on that figure when paint striped and repainted looks much more like Michael Biehn with slicked back hair from Aliens then the head sculpt that came with the Hicks figure. I tried the Aliens helmet on that head and it fit's perfectly.
It's possible that this head was always intended to go on the Hicks figure but was rejected by the studio or the actor for some reason.
Here's what the head looks like when repainted:

Don't really see Hicks in that repaint, I think the Hero Head is better. But that HT head is certainly better than what they sent on the actual Hicks figure.

This is the first I've heard that Hicks is difficult to put together.

Has anyone also put together Scar/Celtic Predator -- if so, how does it compare in difficulty with Hicks/Apone/Vasquez?

saintsyn
06-27-2006, 08:25 AM
The Predators are much easier to put together than the marines.... The Preds torsos are pre-built, unlike the marines. The only tough part on the Preds is getting the body netting on just right... the key word is PATIENCE.

That's a great likeness, much better than anything I've seen before.

Got my Hicks and Vasquez today, half put together Vasquez so far. You don't need to screw together her chest plate.

Unless you want to. Ew, freak.
